Is this sort of thing the norm?

Am I getting old and shouting at clouds?

Apparently will attract billions to the local economy...

Is this a spoof news paper?

(I'd rather suggest this is the equivalent of rolling a dog turd in glitter. Its still a dog turd that no one wants to spend money on).

That sounds cheap to me compared to rebrands in the corporate world.

Do we expect the marketing agency that did this to do it for free?

Rebrands have many purposes and are often attributed to growth and repositioning. Not commenting on this specific rebrand as I don't know the details, but this doesn't seem bad to me overall.

Southampton Council is a disaster and haemorrhages money at an alarming rate.

From the bus lane which replaced one lane of the busiest dual-carriageway into the city (now removed), to the failed 20mph zones which are now being rolled back to 30mph limits.

A genuine thicket of idiots.

I see stories like this all the time. £80k will not be 'for a logo' as the headline suggests.

£80k for a rebranding project is pretty small fry in reality.

Branding I literally my business so for once I've got some actual knowledge on an issue :-)

80k is chickenfeed in the world of corporate branding/marketing/PR.

However even if it's cheap doesnt mean its not a waste of money.

The branding is the least of Southampton’s problems.

Honestly I really don’t know why they bother.
Most of the time people couldn’t pick their current home town, city or council’s logo out of a line up of 3 potential ones.

I’m struggling to think what my council’s looks like as I type this.

Branding is not just a logo, I don't know anything about this project by the way but just pointing out that there's more to it.

Are they rebranding as Portsmouth City Council? Winchester? Ringwood?

Should have just used the logo of Southampton Uni as they seem to be running the city now rather than the council.

Thank you, must be irritating when people use the terms interchangeably.
Either way, I can’t think that changing branding or tge logo or both is going to give any city a boost!

On the subject of billions coming into a council, today I was sent a template of a receipt from a large city council, which had payment methods of "Cash / Cheque / Postal Order" and nowhere for the amount.

It's been in use since 2010 but was revised in March 2018 hehe

Its the council not ‘a city’.

The city has a different brand for tourism.

Both the council and ‘the city’ need branding for different reasons.

They need branding but why rebranding ?
They don't, it's a vanity act by the councillors and a waste of tax payers money. They obviously have too much so no doubt they'll be reducing council tax

80k would be enough for an extra couple of policemen for a year.

Waste waste.
Passing money away when there are more important things money could be spent on.
