Two jags dies, a controversial figure but hugely influential.

And a mean left hook!

That is sad, while I fundamentally disagreed with him on virtually every subject I had a sneaky admiration for the man. He made our present bunch of politicians look like a bunch of wet lettuces.

RIP

I echo the sentiments above, I didn't agree with his politics but he was a real down to earth man of the people.

I have read Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club books, one of the main characters is a guy called Ron Ritchie, an ex trade union leader. I always picturedJohn Prescott in my mind when he appeared in the stories.

Like almost all Labour politicians once he got taste of good life (2 jags, grave an favour home for life, buses only if he was sole user) he seemed to be of the "for me nor for thee" school. But as other's have said he had character and charisma which is lacking in most mps today

I remember his appearance on Top Gear - decent bloke, no nonsense, shame about his political views ....

A genuine man who was not a career politician.

Huge admiration for him - no smoke and mirrors, stuck to his principles and always appeared genuine

Whilst not necessarily agreeing with many of his beliefs, he represents what is missing from UK politics

Very sad to see the news this morning; liked Two Jabs as a character and a politician.

Very surreal moment this morning, listening to R4 coverage of the passing of Prescott, a 1996 N reg XJ6 drove past me on the motorway! How very strange, when do you ever see these in commuter traffic at 6:30am, with this news on at the same time! RIP Mate, you were a good'n I think.

RIP .. he definately makes the current crop look like lightweights !

As said above, I didn't like his politics but I couldn't help liking the man

Yet another one that lived a life and knew what it was like to graft before he became a politician .. he has my respect for that alone amongst other things

Many years ago Michael Heseltine and he where on a local Any Questions style panel. Irrespective of political views both were great, conviction politicians arguing the subject, agreeing with each other where they agreed, etc. it was a great example of what politicians should be

I didn’t mind his politics. For the most part they were largely not mine, but equally they absolutely were not the politics of the current mob. He believed in a govt supporting the worst off, he believed in equality between the “classes”, but good gosh he absolutely believed in ppl standing up and supporting themselves. Not an almost supine patheticness and reliance on a govt to do everything for them.

Upheld his beliefs, failed 11+, joined the Merchant Navy and worked for Cunard so did well!

I did chuckle when he did PMQ’s and back bench tories used to shout out “eeerr waiter” which he always smiled at.

Agree.

And who wouldn't want to lay into someone who's just lobbed a raw egg at you. Fair play to him. RIP.

Sad to hear this news early this morning. I didn't agree with the guy's politics but he was a real character in Blair's government, I remember the uproar when he punched the guy in Rhyl. Years later visiting the town with a local they proudly announced "that's the place where Prezza punched the guy who threw the egg!" RIP sir.

Yes, I may not have agreed with him much, but lamping the guy who threw an egg at him, and not being in the least bit apologetic for doing so? Yeah, I can respect that.

I didn't like anything about him however he was just a stooge to keep the left and the unions on side. The current mob are trying the same with Rayner. Building a bus lane on the M5 was peak Prescott....

Absolutely respected him for being one, even if my views are different. Politics needs differences.
