I for one welcome racist dogs being banned from the countryside, and more of the benefits we get more our diverse countrymen visiting instead.

As someone who lives in Cardiff. And who has two big dogs. One a rottweiler and one a german shepherd cross. You know that certain ethntic groups are going to be scared of your dogs. Which in turn causes the dogs to be scared. And the cycle continues. Young girls scream and run. Dog barks. Which causes the girls to think their fear was founded.

Rather than dog free zones they need dog training in schools to tackle the ignorance. This is for all races of kids. Show them how to behave around dogs. Teach them what the signs are when a dog is telling you to go away. And then epically punish irresponsible dog owners - be them XL bully owners or cockapoo fools.

Hope they enjoy the next 5 years. It may have to last them a while.

A certain subset view dogs as unclean and they hate the thought of coming into contact with them. Its far from universal, more of a subset of a subset, but authorities love to pander to things like that, going against the wishes of the majority to demonstraite how inclusive and forward thinking they are.
I dont know how effective training in school will be, as according to my friend from saudi its quite a deeply held religious thing amongst certain variants and trying to change their thinking would be met with resistance. He finds it amusing watching them go nuts over his dog when its nowhere near them.

I imagine the nuance is in the report. But the media is driven by clicks and the OP has fallen for it and mindlessly helped them propagate it so we can discuss things that are likely unrelated to what the report says.

One of our Westies is racist. We rehomed her from North Wales so I guess there must be very few non-whites up there.

I’m not joking either. West Highland White Supremacist lol

The report itself says

‘create urban farming (allotments) and dog-free areas in local green spaces’

There isn’t much nuance there…
The OP even linked the actual report so he’s apparently fallen for the welshgov’s own drivel.

When you decided to go all shoot the messenger did you bother looking at the message?

https://www.gov.wales/sites/default/files/pdf-vers...

There is one mention of dog. The one suggesting the establishment of dog free areas.

If this is the state of the input to the Welsh gov and guides their policies then no wonder that nation is in the state it is.

I know a racist dog too. It grew up in the Midlands and its master has a bunch of non white step siblings.

Not sure what went wrong there.

It's not the dogs you need to worry about!

My mum’s dog too.
It is very weird. My own lab is completely relaxed but Mum’s cockerpoo will go nuts at black delivery men or postmen.

My brother thought it might be a physiological issue with dogs eye spectrum struggling with darker colours but as I noted there are plenty of sub Saharan cultures (but no means all) which have great relationship with cherished canine member of their family.

Dogs are odd.

Edit to add:

Small dogs go nuts over my lab because it is relatively dark coloured and large.
I wonder given the comments about Westies and the like above whether it is the typical small dog syndrome. Anything big and dark is a threat. I would imagine small lap dog types are vanishingly small in most places outside of cities in Africa.

I used to work with a South African guy, he said back home they don't train their dogs to bark at black people, he said they just don't like them.

At my previous company I worked at, the bosses wife used to being her dog to the office. It used to bark at the only black person in the office to the point where he said "that dog is racist"

So maybe dogs are racist?

There's an awful lot more non white people in the world who presumably have a peaceful time with dogs.

Maybe it's some additive in the food added by a KKK cabal back in the day.

I was bitten by a dog while I was out running, the feckless owner who didn’t have her dog under control then explained this behaviour by telling me her dog “doesn’t like runners, so you shouldn’t run past him.”

Perhaps not running past dogs that don’t like runners should have been taught to me in school, as if what happened would then be my fault.
