Sad news - The actor Timothy West has passed away (BBC link below)

BBC News article

His Canal travels with his wife Prunella Scales/and in turn documenting her cognitive decline/dementia were both beautiful and heart wrenching at the same time.

RIP Timothy West.

I did find the Great Canal Journeys very relaxing.

They both did a lot of work for the preservation of Canals and supporting restorations.

RIP Tim.

We bumped into Timothy West & Prunella Scales in a Dartmouth restaurant a couple of years ago.

He took the time to have a chat with us (& a photo) and came across as a real gent. Lovely couple.

RIP Timothy.

Oh no! I loved the Great Canal Journey's with Timothy and Prunella, they were such a delightful couple and it was a lovely, relaxing series. Poor Prunella, I wonder if she will notice he's gone, not knowing at what stage her dementia is. RIP Sir.

I watched most if not all of their canal series and enjoyed seeing their family join them from time to time.

I am of an age where "Basil" is permanently imprinted in my brain and It seems harsh Pru will be left without him.

He, they brought joy to many of us.

It was a beautiful programme and they both came across as lovely. I hope she gets on OK.

I great memory of him is the "Royal Jelly" episode of Tales of the Unexpected with Susan George. Bzzzzzzzzz ....

This.

I'm not a regular viewer of the canal series but whenever I watched it it was riveting along with the way the couple treated one another.

Not sure you can be too sad if someone makes 90 and slips away and I don't wish to sound morose but I hope it doesn't cause her to decline as can sometimes happen.

Yeah, I remember that one as well. Loved their Canal Journeys, very relaxing and you could see their love for each other. Was sad watching Pru's dementia take hold but his support for her really helped I think. I really hope the family can give her the help she needs. Sad day!

Sad indeed.

I wonder how many immature people (like me) have rearranged stickers in bookshops

They played an excerpt of West's radio series 'I'm here I think, where are you?' on the Today programme yesterday. He was such a talent. Made me seek out the omnibus: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0024df5

And mine. He easily played the formidable evil mill owner.
