Labour MP Suspended
Discussion
Surprised that there isn't a thread already running on the Mike Amesbury incident.
From the footage circulating, he doesn't come out of this looking good but, of course, we don't know the build up to the incident and what happened before the cameras started rolling.
Maybe I'm old school but MPs hitting members of the public, whatever the provocation, isn't a very dignified look but others may have a different view.

But it is a story in it's own right.
From what I have seen, he is toast. Punch a guy with his hands in his pockets and then double down. Looks like ABH.

This is a completely different situation.
We don’t (categorically) know, we haven’t seen any footage from before the incident.Amesbury is on video hitting a bloke with his hands in his pockets, and then carrying on going in with the hits to the head once the guy is down.
There's also the bystander video, where the bystanders are clearly keeping clear of Amesbury, but going in to help the bloke punched - that's usually a pretty good indicator.
It is difficult to understand how Amesbury could have felt threatened, leaning into the guy then going on the attack with no indication of any threatening moves by him. It's completely unsupportable that once down further attacks were necessary even if he did feel threatened.
I have to say I am absolutely shocked with the video of this.
Two blokes stood talking, one with his hands in his pockets. The next moment, the other bloke sucker punches him to the floor, and then continues to follow through with several more punches.
Looks like your average sat night outside a nightclub - but it turns out the attacker is the bloody Member of Parliament.
No words.

I think we do - Prescott was a clear instinctive reaction to an actual physical impact from his blindside.

I agree with all of your points. What we don't know is if the guy he hit had assaulted Amesbury earlier. Not that it justifies punching someone with their hands in their pockets.Amesbury is on video hitting a bloke with his hands in his pockets, and then carrying on going in with the hits to the head once the guy is down.

We'll see.
EDIT: I've changed my mind. I've seen the lead up now. Whatever happened it wasn't a Prescott.
