A Jersey cafe owner has been scammed of £800 for Oasis concert tickets.

She said "I have got to sell a lot of bacon rolls to get that £800 back".

There is a lot more to this story than posted.

Ok, the first bit could be true, account has been hacked

[friend] do yo want to buy these I can no longer go
[buyer] yes please
[friend] total is £800 including £200 to transfer tickets - this bit would be a red flag for me
[buyer] perfect, how do you want me to pay?

Article doesn't say how she paid, so going to presume either bank transfer or Paypal, this next bit is where the conversation should of stopped

[friend] Paypal/bank
[buyer] OK send me the details
[friend] Mr xxxxx, 12345678, 123456
[buyer] hold on, your xxxxx but you've sent me details for xxxxx

There’s a reason she no longer works in finance and is making bacon butties.

Why do these people go public, I'd be embarrassed and want to keep it as much to myself as possible, not that get myself into the situation in the first place!

In the hope that they will somehow be compensated for being thick.

Not sure why so many have to victim blame.

The majority of strangers you'd send money to who say they are selling something are doing exactly that.

The problem with victim blaming is it blows the issue out of proportion and as a society, we stop trusting each other.

We've stopped trusting each other.

I've bought and sold stuff in the past, sometimes sending or receiving 5 figure sums, all without issue.

Not sure I'd have the confidence these days without some form of comeback despite most people being honest because of these occasional stories of scammers making me feel that everyone is out to con me.

Any road, try to look on the bright side.

It was going to cost her £800 worth of bacon rolls anyway, so she is no worse off and she hasn't had to endure an Oasis concert.

Exactly, imagine declaring that you want to go and see Oasis, the shame

In fairness, the amount of effort some scammers are putting in these days to make something seem genuine can make it easier to get caught out. I've transferred money to a friend after just messaging and buying things, booking hotels or tickets for them, that sort of thing. If someone hacked me or them at the right time it could be very easy to transfer money to the wrong person.

Happened to someone local to us. Their daughter got scammed into paying a similar amount for Taylor Swift tickets that didn't exist.

I said they got lucky! Worst case scenario, they could have ended up with Taylor Swift tickets!

"working in finance" can mean "stamping invoices with a date when they arrive". I'm guessing she wasn't at Goldman Sachs.

I’ve always wondered how people buy expensive watches on fleabay, what happens if an empty box turns, like wise vendors when the punter says empty box?

With the latter both get refunded usually. Guess eBay just sucks it up.

According to her LinkedIn, she was a secretary for about 16 years, and then a PA for 18 years (and still listed as such).
