I understand the European Union have imposed a 35% tariff on the sale of all Chinese built new battery cars.
Does this tax only apply to new cars, but not used cars?

These are some Western cars, that are built in China.

Import new cars to the UK.
'Pre-register'.
Move cars to the EU for sale as used cars.

Do you remember when this procedure was used, sending new cars to the Channel Islands?
Supposedly put on the Islands hire car fleet.
Returned to the UK for sale in auctions as used cars (about 10 miles on the odometer).
In that instance, I think it was using the Islands freedom from VAT.

There was something similar running in Cyprus back in the late 1980s. British servicemen could walk into a Cypriot car dealership and ask for a 'Gizzit'. The dealer would give them a new car (I don't know what, if any, money changed hands). After six months(?) the serviceman would return it to the dealer, who would then sell it on to the local Cypriot population, minus the hefty new car import duty.

I'm sure there will be Pistonheaders who had first-hand experience who could fill in or correct the details.

Cant see why the EU wouldnt welcome us doing that biggrin

They love us so much already anyway, cant imagine they wont make things even more difficult, those cars would never end up stuck in customs for a year incurring storage charges.

Cant imagine manufacturers based in the EU wouldn't get told to FRO by Brussels, then there are specs, where the steering wheel is etc, Chinese might be less bothered but even so, I dont think taking the piss like this would end well, there would be consequences I expect.
