RIP frown

Not a big 1D fan but loved "For You", the track he did with Rita Ora. Such a shock.

Apparently TMZ surpassed themselves as usual and had pics of his tattoos to prove it's him. I believe they've now been removed.

He's got a son with Cheryl Cole, poor little one.

I really hope what you've said about TMZ isn't true, if it is they really must be the absolute bottom of the barrell.

RIP to Liam and thoughts with his family, 31 is no age.

This is it. This is the death that's made me realise I'm officially old. 14 links on the BBC's front page for someone I've literally never heard of!

I've clearly heard of his band but still, I'm officially geriatric!

Daily Wail loving this.
"Liams ex breaks silence"...of course in the Wails world breaking silence means posting something 5 seconds since the last post.
"Liams last moments"....written by a reporter sat in his rented flat in Chiswick, trawling Twitter which if you look hard enough shows photos from his room etc.
And for next few days we will have stories of his life, his child, titles such as "Cheryls heartbreak" and other guff. Couple of weeks later, when its all died down, the less nicer stories will come out about him just to round it off before the Wail moves on to something else.

He had become a bit of a laughing stock and internet meme for his behaviour in the last couple of years. The interview after the Will Smith slap, the podcast with Logan Paul, the general David Brent esque behaviour. It was all very strange.

To go from what he was with One Direction to being a bit of a laughing stock can't have been good for his mental health.

Meh, don't do drugs kids

I'll save the false platitudes to Mrs D and the other Facebook huns, she's already making daft comments!

Not the only one. I’ve heard of 1D but apart from Harry Styles couldn’t name another band member. I couldn’t name any of their songs, although maybe I would recognise one? Not sure. Not at all my type of music.

I am old in mind as well as body, as for me people in bands should be musicians and they should write and perform their own music.

My daughter was a big fan and has seen them live a couple of times. She even had a lifesize cardboard cutout of the whole band in her room at one point.
She's obviously outgrown them now and a working woman (not the heady heights of Marketing Director obvz), but is still sad.

The news stories and social media mocking had even blown up on my suggestions over the last few weeks, to the point I even wiki’d him to see what he’d been up to since 1D only a few days ago.

The guy had all the money you could ever want, and he died in a grotty 4 star hotel miles away from home. Very sad way to go, especially leaving a child behind.

Grow up! if you’ve got nothing nice to say then don’t bother. The key thing here is that a 7 year old boy has lost his dad. Parents have lost their child and siblings have lost their brother.

you should be ashamed

I think he makes a fair point. You can be sad about someone’s death, but still learn a lesson from it.

Never been a 1D fan and old enough that they never really appeared on my musical radar much, but knew how he was. It’s very sad and just shows that money and success often bring more pain and suffering than happiness.

No - it’s true and unfortunately I get notifications from TMZ so opened the link. I don’t think they were up for very long but it’s a very low point for them.

Just heard the emergency call on the news. Obviously it is spoken by translators so you don’t get the full feel of the call but it did seem very odd! Almost as if it had already happened. If not they certainly inadvertently pre-empted what did.

Have to say beyond Harry Styles being in the band I didn't know much more about OD and this chap but it does sound rather sad. So young.

The call was made as they knew someone was inside the room smashing it up whilst on drugs and they needed the police to attend that situation, they made a second call advising the police the room had a balcony and they were concerned it could escalate.
