It appears that the body of Andrew 'Sandy' Irvine has been found on Everest after he and climbing partner George Mallory went missing trying to summit in 1924.

No mention of the camera that he was supposedly carrying at the time which could prove whether he and Mallory were the first climbers to summit Everest 29 years before Edmund Hillary.

So they've found both of them.

Surely the camera must be on or near Irvine? Where else would it be? Whether the film has survived is another issue.

There's not much detail yet but it seems that they only found the boot and sock with his foot inside. Not sure if the rest of the body is nearby but the camera could be anywhere. Even if found I would think the chances of getting anything from it would be slim.

When they found Mallory his sun goggles were in his pocket which could mean that they were descending in darkness after having summited. Mallory also had a picture of his wife with him which he said he would leave at the summit if they made it. It wasn't on him when he was found.

I suspect it will always remain a mystery.

Yeah, I got all excited but on reading the article all they found was a boot. The boot clearly didn't lead them to a body at the time so seems to mean little.

The boot did have a foot in it so the rest of the body may be close.

It would have to be a pretty sharp rock to sever a foot from the leg. AFAIK no carrion birds can live that high, so maybe the Yeti does exist.

You may be surprised. the article says there were Ravens seen disturbing the boot.

I liked the ambiguity in the BBC article around whether it was him and then the picture crops up.

I think it's him hehe

I follow Jimmy Chin on social media, he has a great life, pretty much my dream job.

His body will have been chewed up by the glacier over the last 100 years.

I'm sure that's true, but a foot left in a shoe is a pretty typical of animals having a nibble. Maybe more animals make it to that altitude than we realise.

So does this put to bed the rumour that the Chineese found the body in the 1970's and have the camera hidden away somewhere
