"Private Eye editor and Have I Got News For You star Ian Hislop's taxi 'shot at' near offices during rush hour."

https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/ian-hislop-shot-gun-att...

Hislop is one of the few willing to hold the rich and powerful to account. This is a worrying development [if it turns out to be a targeted attack].

When I heard it on LBC News earlier I assumed, if a gunshot, that it was either an accidental discharge, a ricochet or intended for somebody else (so a miss).

"The driver informed detectives that his taxi was stationary in traffic in Soho when he heard what he believed to be a bullet hitting the rear window,"

I'm not convinced this will turn out to be a gunshot or a bullet. I suspect there are more over imaginative taxi drivers than there are assassination attempts.

(I confess I'm the same, every time a stone hits my car my first thought is kids with an air pistol even though I'm sure it never is.)

I can't believe this was a serious assassination attempt. Private Eye is very much part of the establishment. It really doesn't ruffle that sort of feathers.

Let’s hope it wasn’t anything as sinister as an assassination attempt. Over the years, Private Eye has exposed a lot of corruption, and Ian Hislop has certainly made his share of enemies.

Agreed. And done at 10am in the middle of London in rush hour, hardly the work of a trained assassin biglaugh

Probably some freak accident.

Well looking at the usual daily rags that report this sort of thing a suspected gunman fired a suspected weapon and a suspected bullet hit the rear window of the car in a suspected attempt to kill Ian Hislop.

At the moment all we have as fact are a broken rear window and two completely unhurt occupants of the car, one of which claims it was a bullet.

Maybe it was maybe it wasn't an attempt on his life, amazing though that somehow the news has already put together a story claiming what has happened, seems 'suspect' to me lol.

Bit random, and although it doesn't really sound like it is, lets hope it's nothing quite as serious.

My guess: There was no bullet or assassination attempt.

Given everything that’s happening in the world at the moment and also Private Eyes long standing support of the Danish/Muhammed cartoon story, I wouldn’t be surprised if something had taken place.

But it does seem unlikely.

Also as far as I can tell nobody has reported hearing a gun shot.

Seems unlikely. The bullet won't be that hard to find I'd have though.

Yep, I bet Jill Dando thought she was safe also at a similar time in the morning in London. Strange things do happen.

But that’s another can of worms.

I have to agree though. A very odd event.
