Clacton MP has been told by the security office in parliament not to hold face to face constituency surgeries because of "people flowing through the doors with knives in their pockets" according to a interview on LBC.

I don't disagree with what he says about the risk... but lets face it, this was never about Clacton and all about his ego trip, so it's also a very convenient way to explain why he can't be arsed to do his job. If he was offered airport style security and armed guards I expect he'd find another reason.

fking grifter, he really needs to fk off to Mar-a-Lago and play crayons with Trump.

Tbh, if he were to offer to do the same amount of appointments as a typical, heck even 20th percentile, MP but by video conference instead, I wouldn't see an issue with it... He is at greater risk than many others.

I guess he's not offering an alternative?

I'd be surprised if they couldn't write to him. I'd also be surprised if that got anyone anywhere with any MP.

No it wasn’t about Clacton, it was about standing in a constituency he could win. Reform now have MP’s and are on the up. Maybe their appeal will decline, nobody knows but they’re still popular.

That’s democracy.

His "grifting" pales into insignificance next to Free Gear Kier.

Do you set out to make critics of the current government seem a bit special?

Head over to the "next 5 years of labour" and "keir starmer prime minister" threads to see some next-level whataboutism biggrin

I assume he will do virtual calls doesn't say he won't. Frankly if you could do 15 min teams call with him would be enough. For those without teams visiting his constituency office an using equipment there would also work.

What he can't do is not engage but I believe that is common with MPs. IIRC Mhari black of the SNP held 1 a year

Given the volume of threats Jess Phillips receives, and she still holds her surgeries, I would say Farage is a fking pussy.

hehe no its at the NEC, but as I suspect the timing for the utter bullst he is spouting is so he can jump on stage and brag about how brave he is to be there with so much threat to his life etc and "look how bad these immigrants are that I cant even hold surgeries in my constituency because someone will knife me, take back our country/borders/my s bank account etc"

Ignoring the fact it was a silly comment, and not condoning stamer's propensity to get free stuff....

Sks's freebies are comparable I fee in substance (if not volume) to the ones Boris got - wealth gravitates to power.

The only reason Sunak didn't take them was because he was more loaded than the donors, and Truss wasn't around long enough to establish the political equivalent of a "just giving" page.

Grifting though: is something else entirely.

Farage is 100% grift, aka conman, aka charlatan etc. He sells an image to people that is both fake, and I feel politically divisive. It is not about "the people" or "the country", it is about farage's ego.

He's basically a cut price Trump, and frankly we need that crap out of politics (as does the USA).
