What would you suggest is the correct issue to attribute blame to, and what steps would you take to reduce the risk of future incidents?
I would suggest the horse has already bolted. Merkel made some decisions almost a decade ago and the country has to live with it.

In the city known for making knives and razors etc

I'm sure the motive for this specific incident will come out in due course

I mean Poland & Hungary seem to have very low levels of terrorism.

I can't see anything in the linked report to intimate the nationality and ethnicity of the perpetrator, yet some jump immediately on the immigrant bandwagon.

No wonder misinformation is so rife in the internet.

Bild is calling it a terrorist attack, 2 men and 1 woman stabbed in the neck now dead, nine more similarly attacked are in hospital fighting to stay alive.

Police say they have no description of the suspect which will obviously make it difficult to find him or her. Suggests they were covered with a balaclava or similar maybe.

Germany has had a similar stabbing problem to the UK recently and react similarly with political apathy, little long term action and no ducks given so long as the victims aren’t their own family.

Awful

Misleading title. Although that was the name, the festival was to celebrate the 650th anniversary of the city Solingen, so it wasn’t an LGBT event (as far as I can make out from the local German newspapers).

The Times said this

According to Bild, witnesses described the attacker as being a young man of Arab appearance. Police have not issued a description of the suspect but appealed for information, including photos and videos, to be provided via an online portal.

"Germany's top security official, interior minister Nancy Faeser, recently proposed toughening weapons laws to allow only knives with a blade measuring up to 6cm (nearly 2.4in) to be carried in public, rather than the length of 12cm (4.7in), which is allowed now".

FFS Anyone considering committing an atrocity like this is going to carry whatever knife he wants, he is not going to comply with the law on what length he can carry. rolleyes

I saw the spike in the chart in 2003 then read that includes 173 victims of Dr Harold Shipman. My memory is not what it was, I didn't realise there were so many victims

The benefits outweigh any perceived costs. Just ask the families of the multitude of victims of this sort of thing

I wonder if it just doesn’t get publicised so much in those countries if and when it happens?

I very much doubt it, the reverse would be true if anything

Yup, a serious failure of critical thinking or use of a simple logic flow chart of decision making by a murderous criminal.

Even in this case it seems a 6cm blade would have been sufficient to kill those attacked also, so an even more bizarre assertion from their top security official rolleyes

How are these people even allowed to speak? They just make themselves look incompetent or out of touch.
