Always loads of them parked up around Knightsbridge.

From what I’m told most come to our shores for the cooler summer weather. But that could be the same rumor repeated many times.

Surely the rental companies sell them insurance.

I reckon it’s when they let their mates drive.

From the BBC page :

Is that an old Datsun? Seems out of place between the rollers, Bentleys and Range rovers...
Looks in good nick, albeit covered in stickers...

Dont most of the middle easterners bring their cars over? Assume they are too rich to think about insurance

Redefining "Supercars" right there.

Last time I went to a gig at Leeds arena there were six-figure-priced cars littered all over the pavement and other inappropriate places outside the Radisson Blu hotel. All with Qatar plates, all with parking fines attached to the windscreens and, no doubt, all owners giving the sum total of zero fks.

Well, average value £100k, so not all top drawer supercars!

I believe he drove that there from the gulf, via Europe. There’s another guy, or may be the same one as it’s spookily the same colour, doing a RTW trip in a landcruiser pickup

It's got the front and the wheels of a 1978/9 Datsun Skyline 240K GT. But it's a 4 door and i don't think they did a 4 dr 240K GT. So I assume it's some kind of similar Skyline, but not one that was sold in the UK.

Interested if anyone else can clear it up.

Maybe they should what they did in Turkey and give them to the police to drive around in!

I had to do a double take when I saw a Bentley Continental GT with Police all over it parked up in Istanbul

Don’t care where they hail from but I find it antisocial. I’m maybe an old git, but my occasional weekends in London are marred by these street warriors.

Five arrests were made, for offences including insurance fraud, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not using a seatbelt and driving without due care.

Is this misleading wording or did they arrest someone for not wearing a seat belt?

My guess is that if they are foreign registered vehicles then there is simply rarely the correct insurance in place, and the police only decided to check now. If they are UK registered then as mentioned it's either a "rental" and driven by random people, or it's owned by somebody who lives abroad and insured to somebody local because they couldn't find insurance for their circumstances, and, again, nobody has checked until now because ANPR said it was insured.

Perhaps arrested as unable to be certain of their identity?
