The Guardian's 'Killed Women Count'
Discussion
What are peoples thoughts on this?

It appears they are looking to publicise cases where men have been charged (not convicted) with murder, for reason's i'm unsure of. Is the subtext an idea that lots of men kill women & yet somehow escape justice in our legal system due to some sort of conspiracy?

Probably more to do with the imbalance of homicides; typically men are about twice as likely to be a victim ten times as likely to be a perpetrator.
There's also the matter of circumstances. Men get murdered in a real variety of settings, with the majority falling victim outside the home, whereas almost half of murdered women fall victim to their partner or another family member (mainly, going on the general imbalance, male family members.)
It's more instinct than anything robust, but it seems women are more frequently murdered as "full-blown victims" (problem partners etc) than men who are likely to be killed by way of criminality or some manner of feud.

They want to highlight the number of women who are killed by men.
They are concerned by the extent of the problem of male violence, but have decided to focus their concern on the minority of victims of male violence who are female. Violence by men against men and boys is not in scope for their campaign.

I saw this too
I did idly think I wonder how many men have been killed by men? and even how many men killed by women?
But CBA to look up numbers, as ultimately it doesn't make any difference. And doesn't take away from how awful any murder is.
Ps personally I didn't read anything into charged Vs convicted status, other than the woeful performance of our justice system. Doubt it is a "conspiracy".

The particular nature of femicide is that many of them are foreseeable. Committed by men with an established pattern of controlling behaviour and authorities and tragically victims themselves not taking action in the face of risk.
I think there's a dawning realisation that violence against women needs almost a 'public health' approach to identify risk and deal with herald incidents appropriately.
In Jess Phillips Labour have someone with real experience and a burning desire to fix this. I wish her well.
When I was working, some women in my office said they hated it when their husbands/boyfriends were away for the night or longer, on business or whatever, because they felt unsafe on their own.
I'd always point out that when he was away, they were at their safest. because statistically, the only person who is going to murder a woman in her own home is her partner.
Not sure it always made them feel better!!!
Back then 2 women a week were murdered by their partners. Probably more now. It's a national bloody scandal. Just appalling.

This is just awful. I really dislike the Guardian and it's obvious bias in reporting, but this is something different. As a father to 2 daughters, I do worry what the world will be like when they've flown the nest.
Murder is awful. Many men are just terrible people. There's an incredibly small amount of situations where murder is the justifiable, I cannot imagine even a single one of these poor women are in those categories.
