Obviously this was quite a gruesome murder, but if the baby had lived it would now only be a few months from being the oldest person in the UK and whoever did it would be long dead.

Is this really a good use of police resources, at a time where their resources are seemingly so stretched? I think there are some potential cost savings to be found here.

Can you imagine getting a knock on the door from the local bill.
“Good morning sir sorry to disturb your breakfast but we have reason to believe that your great, great, great auntie Florence who you nothing of had a baby that died in suspicious circumstances before being buried under the floorboards”

Well thank you very much for informing me of this historic tragedy but I don’t see that it has anything to do with me and the only reason to inform me is to put me off my crunchy nut cornflakes and make sure I somehow share in the misery of knowing I had a distant relative who’s baby died in circumstances we cannot possibly ever know of.

I thank you for your sterling investigative Police work but could you now please fk off and leave me alone.

O by the way, any news on my stolen car? No thought not.

Until the carbon dating results come back, it could be a recent murder wrapped in an old newspaper.

You can get a historic newspaper on ebay for a few quid, Sherlock.

There's probably one copper doing the work (among other cases) and some shiny buttons dealing with the media.

Carbon dating to check it isn't a recent murder is normal but they are talking about the police looking through records from 1900 to 1920, when nobody would still be alive, with the goal to be to tell some unsuspecting family that their great-grandma was a baby killer.

In 1911 the address was a refreshment house with. 56yr old woman there with her 14yr old son and a 22yr old domestic living there. Job for genealogists to research now

I expect the enquiries on this are being dictated by the coroner. The head of Criminal Investigation will be looking at the budget, I'm sure, but if the presiding coroner says 'investigate', then investigate they will.

It might be reasonably straight forward to guess that, from the skeletal remains found, the gruesome act didn't occur, say, last month.

So you can buy an old newspaper that looks like it's been under floorboards for over 100years?

What does that look like?

I found some 50 year old newspaper, it looked a lot like 1 year old newspaper that had been in my Dad's garage, except the stories were better written.

Itll look like a newspaper thats been under floorboards wrapped round a dead baby for a 100 odd years. Certainly wont look like a recent ebay purchase.
