Looks like even the ICO have been shocked by the incompetence of the Electoral Commission and have formally reprimanded them.

Sounds like a bunch of incompetent tossers at the helm, the hackers even got registration information that was meant to be kept private, bearing in mind you need a very good reason to get it held private.

However, what's the point in the 'formal reprimand'.

I'm not sure I want people dragged outside, tarred and feathered, however, pointless waste of resources, nothing changes does it!

Soon as I read "on premise Exchange Server" my heart sank a little bit.

Best thing I ever did was switching that bd off.

Reading that is embarrasing in the extreme, they need to sack the person responsible for being incompetent.

Louise Edwards, Director of Regulation and Digital Transformation at the Electoral Commission.

That post would have been a long way from the actual IT infrastructure, more about processes than implementation. That said, I'm sure her role could have paid for 3x good IT admins to have worked on maintaining and migrating the on-premise Exchange, and on general security practices.
