Unfortunately a lot of road warriors around. I pulled out on one, not dangerous he was clearly doing 80mph, but must have irked him as he over took me very closely. I was doing 60 mph so didn't slow him down. Held me up on the corners. I guess it is an ego thing but who's getting you killed.mickythefish said:

"held me up in the corners" - so at what speed did you accelerate up past 60 to catch him in the corners?

We don't know what happened so I think it's in poor taste to refer to them as such.

Come the summer time, I've seen wheelies, loads of double white overtakes. I don't know the exact specifications but doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out the premise of the situation. And yes it should be discussed as maybe it might stop others killing themselves. Some horrors on this thread, RIP to all of them.

That second story linked above…
Does anyone else think that a good use of average speed camera would at the start and finish of these roads that are well known for serious crashes?
It's already happening on several 'country' roads in my experience, maybe many around the UK.Does anyone else think that a good use of average speed camera would at the start and finish of these roads that are well known for serious crashes?
Cat & Fiddle was one of the early ones. A4069 from Brynamman a more recent addition.
But, if you're out for a hoon then covering your plate is easy enough for a short duration. Then police need to be employed anyway to detect the plate coverers.
Also you can hoon and stop before the second camera for a break. They are only really effective at slowing drivers/riders going from A to B where the monitored part is a short section of the journey, but that may be sufficient to reduce overall average speeds.

There are some on Grane Road between Haslingden and Blackburn. They seem to be very effective at reducing cockish driving (IMHO). They seem closely spaced so I can't see how "stopping before the 2nd camera" would work, you'd probably be stopping very 300/400 yardsCat & Fiddle was one of the early ones. This only seems to be the case (sometimes) in the most tragic incidents like the above.
The A703 between Edinburgh and Peebles has seen several fatalities in recent years, but other than obvious statements of, 'collision between car and van', almost no other information is forthcoming.
Lessons will never be learned unless the detailed circumstances of these horrific collisions are widely publicised in local and national media.

It's being reported the bike (two up) was on the wrong side of the road.
I don't mind a discussion about behaviour on the road in these sorts of situations - it is a stark reminder of how fine a line it is between "making progress" and tragedy.
I expect these threads to be more than just "condolences" "how sad" type posts, given we all will have experience and opinions.
