The Mayor unable to answer a straightforward question.

That’s truly shocking. I’m surprised he hasn’t been arrested.

Apparently he just does and answers (or not) what he likes. Doesn't care who it upsets or if what he wants isn't right/legal/whatever. He gives no fks.

Odius little man in my book. We can and should be doing better than him.

The Tories put up an absolute fruitcake to stand against him.
Khan won fair & square.

Tbf, both parties put up ste candidates - however there's no chance of a Tory mayor unless they're a 'personality' politician like Johnson, so Khan could be objectively the second best candidate and he'd still win.

I do think that Khan gets London to keep him out of the Parliamentary party's hair.

But he wasn't the 2nd best candidate. He was the best candidate, by a country mile. Even if he is useless.

She just lied and lied thru the whole campaign. Lied on Twitter constantly. When she was called out time and time again on her lies, she just doubled down on the lie.

The whole lost purse episode was just crazy. Why did she stick to that story when everyone knew the truth. The shock with the result was that 800K people actually voted for her.

I agree - but why would the Tories 'waste' a good candidate when frankly it doesn't matter how good they are, they aren't getting elected?

Staggering.

The whole point of evading a question is to conceal something but he's been an obnoxious tt whilst also defacto answering the question.

Typical hypocrite politician, but with absolutely no attempt to disguise his flagrant and shameless, abject, hypocrisy. So very glad I don’t live in the st hole that London has become anymore (grew up there), especially with his brand of governance at the helm.

You see, I don’t think so.

Had the Tories put up a candidate that was even half way sane, they’d stand a chance or at least give Khan a good run for his money.

Scully would have given him a fight and if they put someone like Justine Greening or similar up for election, they’d have a fair chance. Londoners simply don’t want reactionary nutters in charge and are not turned on by culture war nonsense, Hall was just a plain idiot, Bailey was a moron (campaigned in Watford whose residents don’t get a vote was a particular highlight) and Goldsmith’s campaign was incredibly negative with race overtones which turned people off.

London is not the Labour stronghold people think especially in mayoral terms. Londoners are fickle and will vote for who has the better vision for London centric issues like transport, crime, housing, etc. Come up with a credible campaign that addresses peoples concerns and come across as affable and sane and you’ll have a chance.

Don’t emulate the national campaign plan and think it’ll work in London.. Campaign ‘locally’ and you never know.

Khan is a very average mayor but he knows the game and he knows that all he has to do is appear ‘normal’ when his competition has gone full on loon. Khan just let Hall make an arse of herself and it worked. He is an accomplished politician in that he knows the game, knows how to win elections and knows not to interrupt when your oppo is making a fool of themselves.

This will probably be his last term anyway. With labour back in charge I imagine he’ll be looking for a place back in Cabinet next time around or even a stab at the leadership.

It was 43% vs 32%, and somebody less obviously loopy may have stood a chance, or at least got the swing moving for next time.

Ironically enough a previous London Mayor got rather annoyed about *not* being asked questions

Why would we want to pay out more in benefits? The 2 child cap makes sense.

Personally, I don't.

However, considering Starmer and Khan's constant complaints and appeals to 'stop starving children' whilst the Tories were in power, it's fair game to point out how suddenly they've gone very quiet, and in Khan's case really quite aggressive in not wanting to be challenged on it...

All he was asked was if he was going to make the same requests of the new government as the old.

Exactly. It's just lazy racism to suggest Khan is a shoe in due to the Muslim vote. They make up 14% of the London voters and many of them are small business owners who vote Tory, or would do if their candidate wasn't bonkers.
