I never understand why it has to be one or the other. I recall regular visiting a town in the late 90s, I think it was Daventry, when during the day the road was closed and it was a pedestrianised shopping street, then in the evening during peak times, and morning the road was open to traffic, seemed sensible solution
Makes a lot of sense.
Anyone coming from Hampstead / Chalk Farm already goes via Castlehaven Rd / Hawley Rd and onto Kentish Town Rd / Camden Rd rather than try to get down Camden High Street if they have an ounce of common sense.
I'm generally against vehicle restrictions being put into place but that 300m of Camden High Street is a no brainer for pedestrianisation.

Coincidence about timing?
No. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-brie...
Coincidence that it's being considered under a labour government?
No. It will have been planned in advance, and this type of political decision is a local one.
It sounds like the op wants a thread about the advantages/disadvantages of pedestrianisation, but has got mixed up.

Was first mooted in 2019 and originally was going to be trialled in 2023No. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-brie...

I was there last weekend. It was hot, pride celebrations were in full force, people were there for the Hyde Park gig and there were more Americans wandering about than in America. I have to say, I didn't see much of an issue with all of those people and the traffic. Hell, as much as I was a pedestrian, I rather enjoyed watching the cool cars using the roads.
