Three days after the election this pops through the door?
Yeah the usual, doesn't apply if you don't live in London.... except, anyone following the priorities and policies of London borough's can see a programme of trial's that are liable to be followed throughout UK now?

Cars in city centres are a stupid idea when you look at it objectively.

fk cars. It’s Camden, not Carden, and that’s for a reason.

But thete are still no bears in Bearsden and I am fking livid with Sturgeon about that.

Yes. Camden council have been sitting on this for years waiting for a Labour government so that they can pedestrianise the High St.

Klaus Schwab’s plans are finally being realised.

I never understand why it has to be one or the other. I recall regular visiting a town in the late 90s, I think it was Daventry, when during the day the road was closed and it was a pedestrianised shopping street, then in the evening during peak times, and morning the road was open to traffic, seemed sensible solution

Cities are a stupid idea when you look at it objectively. But then when has stupid ever been a barrier to the objective and nothing else brigade?

Makes a lot of sense.

Anyone coming from Hampstead / Chalk Farm already goes via Castlehaven Rd / Hawley Rd and onto Kentish Town Rd / Camden Rd rather than try to get down Camden High Street if they have an ounce of common sense.

I'm generally against vehicle restrictions being put into place but that 300m of Camden High Street is a no brainer for pedestrianisation.

Musselburgh was a bit of a disappointment too.

Don’t get me started about Cockermouth either.

Disappointed every time I go near the place.

I've seen two town centres pedestrianised in recent years. Both have been reversed since.

Coincidence about timing?

No. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-brie...

Coincidence that it's being considered under a labour government?

No. It will have been planned in advance, and this type of political decision is a local one.

It sounds like the op wants a thread about the advantages/disadvantages of pedestrianisation, but has got mixed up.

Was first mooted in 2019 and originally was going to be trialled in 2023

A lot of announcements that would otherwise have been made in June have had to be held over due to purdah during the election period.

I was there last weekend. It was hot, pride celebrations were in full force, people were there for the Hyde Park gig and there were more Americans wandering about than in America. I have to say, I didn't see much of an issue with all of those people and the traffic. Hell, as much as I was a pedestrian, I rather enjoyed watching the cool cars using the roads.
