I don’t really know what it is, this place is normally robust and brave and full of facial stiffness, even from those for whom the other sort is a distant memory. I’ve always had the sense that the brave and robust denizens of NP&E could face any challenge, climb any mountain, solve any problem. Always ready to make the best of any situation, and come out on top. This forum is (was?) populated by life’s winners. So unlike the nanny pamby snowflakes that young people are today.

But the last few weeks, something has changed. People are worried. They are timid. They are negative, and they seem to have given up. It’s like they feel they never no power of self determination, like cards are stacked against them, like RULES might even apply to them, now, too. It’s reached a height today or yesterday. What is it that’s causing this, and has anyone else noticed?

I've noticed similar and it's surprised me how many seem genuinely fearful at the election result.

Seems to be lots of talk of "socialists" and grown men fearful of Angela Rayner and change.

I'd be pissed off if the Conservatives won (they won't) but life goes on.

It's weird.

People are resilient and we can survive through much worse than Starmer and Rayner. I don't know who is supposed to be scared by it though.

There's quite a few threads around e.g.

Five things to do before Labour get in power
Voting out of fear
I'm literally crapping my pants at the thought of a Labour Govt

It’s not a labour government I am worried about its Starmer, a man who does not have an original idea in his head and changes his mind every hour according to who is listening to him.

Plus what’s her face the deputy, is he man enough to stand up to her whacky ideas?

It’s absolutely daft.

Grown men crapping themselves over something that will mean virtually no difference to most of us.

Change has always happened and always will happen.

We’ve had communist mentioned. We’ve had socialist mentioned. We’ve had every trope of Labour bogeymen raised as if there going to be a Stalinesque purge on Friday night when in reality we will have one of the most centrist Labour governments of modern times.

yes I saw a post along the lines of "imagine the meltdown if the Tories have a surprise win"? When there's already a massive meltdown as they're expected to lose.

The naivety of youth, the last time they were in power ended up in disaster.

OK I am biased, on a pension and reading with horror some of their ideas.

Genuinely hope I am wrong, we need good a government especially up here in Scotland

As said above we will see

My first ten years on PH were under a Labour government. We had fun. Wing'd Horse. Piemaggeddon. Kimblegate. Jeering at Winky McFcensoredckNut.

It wasn't like there was dekulakization going on or the Khmer Rouge taking people outside and having them shot for knowing how to use an apostrophe.

On the other hand, if Starmer does make apostrophe abuse a capital offence, and deem not knowing the difference between cue, queue and qué punishable by flogging, then he'd go up considerably in my estimation.

Everyone needs to get out more. Have a few glasses of champagne, throw down the gauntlet, get the butler to hold jackets and then have a good old jolly dust up.

Queensberry rules of course.

These NP&E hard men have been lied to and let down by their party.

These ‘snowflakes’ are simply those realizing they were had.. they were hoodwinked and they fell for it.

Those that have pictures of Thatcher on their walls (yes there are some for real) and dream of the good old days when the rush were rich, the poor worked in mines and the stiff upper lip was something to be proud of.

Sorry chaps, the worlds moved on.

You got me wrong, I was a supporter of independence when the puddlejumpers on here were still in nappies.

I still think it could be better if we were independent with a competent government, the rot set in with Sturgeon all she had to do was make life better in Scotland, they failed miserably because the SNP politicians did not have a clue how to do this. Sturgeon blew it, the cockups and wasting money. Swinney goes on about austerity but it might have helped if they did had wasted money on ferries, bottle recovery etc etc.

I do well out of some of their policies, prescriptions, bus pass etc but they just did not make the grade as a competent government.

A lost chance of being better off for Scotland, none of the FM exactly shined
