It wouldn't be to far out to expect the incoming government to hit car owners, but what can we expect?

A rise in fuel duty, RFL, luxury tax on purchase?

Certainly the first two.

You mean, like the Tories have done with all three of those? (Although to be fair, fuel duty has been frozen since 2011)

RFL already acts as a quasi luxury tax on purchase.

So all of the above most likely plus potentially additional charges elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure they are going to ban personal cars, make cyclists wear lycra 3 sizes too small and require all pedestrians to link elbows and skip while singing "we're off to see the wizard...".

Well, they've made a good start on painting the roads in rainbow colours. Just need to get them to focus on the yellow bit...

More seriously, expect massive roll out of LTNs, LEZs, and - if they can get their IT act together (which could be as simple as linking it to MOTs) - by-the-mile road pricing (as well as the above massive hikes in fuel duty and road tax).

I hope I'll get an enforced 20mph speed limit in the road where I live in SE London. Though I expect that's down to the council rather than the government. That will probably stay Tory.

Community-knitted speed bumps, an extra Bank Holiday named after Saddiq Khan, diesels to be rounded up and burnt exported to Africa, 10 mph off all speed limits to improve air quality, tyres to be banned due to particulate emissions and probably free broadband for everyone with a bicycle.

I was more interested in what the Greens ambitious pointless plan is, it's always good for a laugh to see.

All the same ways the Tories were going to - road pricing, ULEZ in every city, LEZ in every town, fossil fuel tax increases etc. etc.

I thought most of London had regulatory 20mph limits already? And that the vast majority of it was running at 14mph for years anyway smile

Default 20mph.

More NSL's to 50mph, 50mph to 40mph....and so on.

With the move to EV's any excessive taxation on ICE will just push people towards them faster, what will likely happen will be a default tax rate for all cars.

I pay over £700 a year VED for a 1.3 Mazda and so there's not many left on the road now, same with most nice cars made in the decade from 2006 onwards till 2016 when the VED rate was reduced.

I don't see the labour government being much worse than the Tories tbh as they promised us 80mph motorways in their first manifesto yet speed limits have been reduced everywhere over the past 14 years.

Is that the real 15 minute cities where they put in more local services or the conspiracy version where they use the 5G nano bots to prevent you going more than 15 minutes walk from your home? Asking for a friend.

This is PH. We all know that’s a rotary engine, not a 1.3l 4 pot city car.

RFL hasn't existed since 1936. The replacement, VED, isn't hypothecated to roads -- it is a general tax.
