Three newborn babies abandoned the same parents over a period of seven years. All very lucky to be alive by the sounds of the reports, and you’d hope there are now some more serious efforts to find the parents. They’re obviously in circumstances that prevent them giving up these children in the proper and safe manner.

Was reported on the Today program this morning that the babies share the same mother and father. Something horrific is going on.

May well be the case; but not unimaginable that there's something else entirely going on. The children may have been taken from parents kept prisoner, for example.

God awful, whatever's going on. Awful.

Tracked down certainly. But then a clear understanding of why it’s happened. Could be mother is under duress in some way, could be by choice.

How sad.

If only there was some way to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

This.

Poor kids, and poor parents - I can't imagine it's EVER an easy decision. I'm grateful the babies are abandoned in such a way that they are highly, highly likely to be found healthy.

Not sure if you're being disingenuous or not (I hope so).

Could be some poor captive woman in a cellar and being abused.
When babies inevitably arrive Mr Hostage taker removes child and abandons it.
Rinse and repeat frown

Very sad lets hope they find the parents and can work out WTF has been going on.

That's sort of what crossed my mind. Too horrible to contemplate.

My first feeling is that I'm glad the known babies are ok. My second thought is that are there others that aren't ok and may need help/too late. My third is that the mother needs to be found urgently as something is very very wrong about this and no doubt she needs help.

This sums up my thinking as well ...

Looks like the Judge's agreement to let this be published is based on it helping find the parents which can only be a good thing in terms of sorting this out in whatever way is appropriate.

I agree. The remark above about parents being "sentenced" is rather an assumption.

Sadly I did think this, a maid, someone from another country or relative abused at home. 3 in 7yrs is more than just 'daughter had a child out of wedlock in a strict family'.

Alternatively the parents are overstayers living here under the radar without a visa.

If they were to put the children up for adoption through official channels there would be questions as to who they are.

No NHS number, no NI number, "the system" would soon find them out.

Poor kids, hope they go on to have loving lives in their adopted families

A lot of people judging and not looking at the bigger picture. There is every chance something untoward is going on and the mother could be at risk.

Surely the same DNA testing that identified it was the same parents to all 3 children would be able to identify mum and dad being related? I'm no DNA expert but couldn't they tell it was father/daughter, brother/sister or uncle niece etc?

But I think the hostage situation with a coercive man keeping a woman in his cellar is a definite possibility. It could also be just a pair of feckless scumbags. Who knows?

I think the most likely situation is the parents are drug abusers or have severe mental illness.

I'd say that something like this is more likely than the basement idea. But guessing really. Though it still doesn't make me think about looking for people so they can be punished.

Incredibly sad stories and thoughts are with the babies and the mother.

Whatever the reason for this happening, it’s horrific and so far removed from our bubbles we live in it’s difficult to comprehend. I guess this is why people tend to get angry and want punishment but let’s try and show some humanity and empathy for others not so lucky.
