Is it just me or does this sentence seem very light, considering this poor bloke is probably ruined now for life?

Also, there is still a huge stigma admitting that you (a big strong man) are being abused by a woman. For example, he was 'forced to buy her a £400 handbag'. To which my flippant response would be 'lucky chap, only £400,he got off lightly' It's the accumulative effect of many events, and the attitudes/behavior around them.
