Yes I know silly season for election promises, but Cons saying they'll find £2.5bn from the magic money tree to force 18 year olds to run around fields...

Make every illegal migrant prove their loyalty to the country by doing a years national service…..

…. And every scrote teenager caught with a blade should be sent to bootcamp and be conscripted!

Great idea in principle but would you want to trust either of them to watch your back?

May as well discuss the manifesto promises of the DUP were they to gain a majority and form government. It’s just as likely to happen.

Good. Is there an upper age limit to the community option?

FML, where to begin?

If you want youths to have an opportunity to join the armed forces then put them through the Army Reserve over a 6 week holiday at 17 with a nice lump sum at the end.

If you want youths to do voluntary work then you need to address the fact they can't afford to not work weekends...

Oh and bring back 300m rifle ranges for public use all over the country.

It's just another empty Tory promise. Will never happen. Anyone gullible enough to swallow it shouldn't be allowed to vote.

More details in the Times. The community option needs to be expanded to include more things and it should cover over 19s and the full time option cover more careers, but it's a great idea.

Are they listening to the 75 year olds on the street too young to have done national service but always demand its return?

This party is over.

Current Tory position on young people:

Giving them guns - ok
Giving them the vote - not ok

The Conservatives have absolutely lost the plot. Lets hope this election is the end of them.

Great idea.

Get an underfunded professional military to babysit a bunch of teenagers who don't want to be there.

Bonkers.

Will lose a lot of votes because of this from the 20-50 age range.

Why on earth should a persons daughter/ son have to work for free for a public service for x amount of hours a week under the veiled threat of being forced in to the army for a year.

Most 16-18 year olds have a weekend job.

Idiocy.

Almost like he doesn't want to be elected.

The bloke probably has less relevant to the rest of the population life experience than most 16 year olds. It’s hardly surprising he thinks this is a good idea.

What else are they going to promise bring back over the next few weeks in order to give fans of the 1950's a warm glow?

Hanging?

The Birch?

Food ration books?

The Suez Crisis?

Mandatory cod-liver oil doses for school children to avoid rickets?

Skiffle?

I turned the BBC news on and this was the headline. I had to do a double take to check I hadn’t put the Daily Mash or Brass Eye on by mistake.
