Developing story, not a huge amount of information and access will be challenging in the region.

Happened in heavy fog, so suspect more of a crash than a landing...

"Hard landing". Looking at that report yes it's a hard landing. I doubt it'll be flying too soon.

Sky News now reporting this as a crash (no real surprise) and the local area seems to be covered in thick fog.

Lets hope there hasn't been any foul play.

There is a likelihood that they will try and spin foul play regardless, could turn nasty

I'm not sure that the Iranian President has much in the way independent power such that his unexpected demise would cause an appreciable power vacuum - the shots are ultimately called by the Supreme Leader and his chums - the President's role is to essentially implement their policies and be a visible face of the government, enjoying such duties as being sent off to glad-hand the president of Azerbaijan at a dam inauguration, which was what he was doing when this helicopter apparently came to grief. The Supreme Leader has told the Iranian public "not to worry" about the situation, failing to actually add the truth that "we've got plenty more where this one came from".
