Luckily an extremely rare occurrence and sounds like the local hospital is looking after him well.

The guy got really unlucky.

I’ve been diving there and went out with a guy based at Mt Irvine just up the road from this. Specifically wanted to see sharks and he said words to the effect you’ll be lucky. He hardly saw any apart from nurse sharks and was out diving nearly every day for years.

It does remind me that 150 people die a year from falling coconuts vs 5 from sharks.

That's a myth and a finger in the air stat by George H. Burgess.

There are only 22 reported cases of death by falling coconut since 1777.

I spent a month diving out there a few years ago, only ever saw a few nurse sharks. And we went all over the Island too... Not heard of bull shark attack out there, but they are the dodgy sharks............ Still safer than cows/hippos etc...
