Carnation Revolution 50th anniversary

50 years ago today there was a revolution in Portugal resulting in the end of the dictatorship and transition to democracy.

I was completely ignorant of this until the last week or so . I have been learning Portuguese and watching clips on social media in Portuguese and there are lots today with people singing a song that was the anthem of the revolution.

Apparently the name comes from some civilians giving soldier’s carnations to put in their guns.
