Stage a sit in protest in your employer's office…what did they think would happen?

This approach has worked before, at Google. Obviously the political and financial winds are blowing a lot harder this time. But I can't help thinking those same people would be wetting themselves with glee if this product was being purchased by, say, Hamas....Stage a sit in protest in your employer's office…what did they think would happen?
Mission accomplished. The fact we are even discussing the topic shows they have achieved partial success in highlighting the issues to the wider population. Weaponized AI is scary thing, we need to ensure some oversight. While I may not fully align with the standpoint, I admire their commitment.

If their conscience doesn’t allow them to work for Google while it does something they consider heinous, protesting and getting fired seems like a perfectly acceptable alternative to quietly resigning.
Good point. I've changed my mind, you're right.
Guess I'm wrong.

True, but I suspect it never occurred to them that they would get fired - I suspect they thought they would be protected by the cloak of righteous indignation.redback911 said:

You mean there is a conflict going on in Gaza? I never realized until this protest made me start watching the news otolith said:

Did you know what Google was doing? They could always ship out and work for another employer, then again they've already been shipped and understandably so.

Is that the (presumably lawful) Nimbus cloud computing contract with Israel which would have a role in paying employees' wages?

They have a serious ethical concern about what their employer is doing. Others may not. It's really up to them if they don't feel that they can continue working for such an employer. They chose to protest (presumably in the knowledge that they would get fired) rather than quietly resigning. They could always ship out and work for another employer, then again they've already been shipped and understandably so.

You mean there is a conflict going on in Gaza? I never realized until this protest made me start watching the news While the specific intended uses of Nimbus remain ambiguous, this platform represents a continuation of previous programs such as "Habsora", "Red Wolf", "Blue Wolf", and "Smart Shooter" among others. Israel's ongoing development of surveillance technology aims to automate the monitoring of Palestinians, potentially enabling the prioritisation and targeting of individuals for various purposes, including assassination.
A significant number of employees from Amazon and Google have voiced their opposition by signing a petition urging a boycott of the technology's development for the Israeli military, these concerns pre-date the current Gaza conflict. Now at least 28 of the Google employees who participated in a subsequent protest have been terminated from their positions. No doubt more will follow.
People are allowed to voice their concerns, employers are allowed to fire them. I'm not arguing otherwise.
