Another MP upto no good. Why are cases like this always referred to the party who have an interest in brushing it under the carpet rather than the police? The claim seems like quite a straightforward accusation of fraud so definitely within the police area.

Interesting. One of my business partners called just before lunch, had been due to meet with Menzies in the morning at around the time that article was published but had been informed just as he'd got to Portcullis House that Menzies was 'unwell' and unable to keep the engagement.

Or he was being held against his will in a flat somewhere in London…..

On the face of it doesn’t seem dissimilar to the Sturgeon case where a week was spent searching a house and digging up a garden, and millions of pounds worth of police time investigating…

Using campaign funds to pay blackmailers and medical bills, no doubt just a misunderstanding.

Allegations of some very grubby behaviour.

I think the usual suspects are prisoners of their own tiny minds, locked up by prejudice and tribalism.

I do think that whatever Menzies has done, at least he’s not been the subject of a baseless smear campaign, dreamt up by a tax exile Tory peer. Neither is he a grubby ginger scrubber, nor is he gobby, so on that basis I think we can just gently let this story fade away and with it another unfit for office Tory MP. Now can we get back to Angela please.

This muppet is my parents local MP. On the face of it this is utterly pathetic behavior. It’s grubby, pathetic cheap behaviour from someone who doesn’t deserve the respect of a snail.

I’m sure the facts will out at some point. I see no reason for there not to be a criminal investigation to establish these facts.

It’s a bizarre story, actually strikes me that he may have mental health problems, but I’m not convinced the whole truth will come out, they’ve swing into damage limitation mode. On the face of it, it’s difficult to see how he can continue as an MP, another by election.

Good old Twitter :

hehe

Reading between the lines, and reading a litany of other linked incidents, I think he's got alcohol problems which leads him to make very bad decisions late at night...

What do you think the whole truth is?
Unlikely to force a by election IMO

Shapps this morning: "Just because an accusation is made, or something is written, doesn't mean it is necessarily proven"

Shapps last week: "The double standards have been extraordinary. Angela Rayner has spent her political career calling people out for exactly the thing she seems to be doing now..."

I'll judge this thread by its absentees.

I’ve no idea, but I suspect that, as is the norm, a damage limitation exercise is underway. Shapps admitted that they’ve been looking into this for some time, but new information (code for the story was about to break) came to light.

I should’ve put a question mark after by election, but either the whip is restored to him or he continues as an independent or he resigns or is forced to by his constituency. It all depends on the outcome but I think there’s a good chance he’ll be gone.
