Known to the victim but I hope this isn't another case of asylum seeker turned Christian so allowed to stay.

Bangladeshi male who came to the U.K. two years ago on a student visa, was living in oldham and studying at a college in Bedfordshire apparently

His details have been widely publicised

The victim and offender were known to each other it seems

The student Visa program is one that is wholey abued I recall there are many more universities in the UK than you realise that is bodies that can award a degree but not as we know it. IIRC there is even one on Oxford Street

I sometimes think that some of the indigenous population could do with attending an English language course or two.

Its not the point rther i think its quite clear some colleges are no more than fronts to facilitate entry into the UK. This particular chap did he travel to college every day, what was he studying, what were the course requirments. If I had to guess I would bet he never attended other than to register

It appears the offender was arrested last year by GMP for assault on and threats to kill the victim

He was charged and put before the courts.

Five months ago Manchester Crown Court released him on bail pending trial

The victim left the Oldham area to get away from him and he tracked her down

There’s a question for the Judge as to why he felt that the victim was not at risk from him and why he wasn’t remanded in custody pending trial

Despite being one of the resident lefties here, I actually agree that the student visa system needs a thorough shakeup. It would make far more sense than trying to ship a few poor sods off to Rwanda.

It's a massive loophole and I'm not sure why the Governments haven't cracked down on it. Universities/colleges have a vested interest in issuing student visas left, right and centre and, for the student, it's probably safer paying a University £18k than paying a trafficker.

He was here on a Visa? Couldn't he just have had his Visa revoked and be deported? Gets him away from the woman and everyone involved would have lived normal lives.
