You should not be allowed to call your child Jihad or Pasty.

I'm fairly certain in some countries its illegal to give your child a stupid name.

I think stupid names are dangerous. I mean, Adolf Hitler. Whey did his parents call him that with all the connotations? Just asking for trouble.

We get quite a few of these at work. The “worst” one I’ve seen recently was a child called what sounded like “Rainbow”. Bad enough for any child, but imho worse, because the child is a boy.

Immeasurably worse was the fact the parents decided to spell it “Reign-Beaux”.

There are some prohibited names in several countries - Australia is a well-known example.

Amazing that the list has grown over the years due to folks attempting to register their newborn as D1ckhead or Robocop, requiring the Aus govt to step in.

Just read down to the NZ entry on that wiki page - again, parents must have tried to register their kid as 4Real, Anal, Mafia No Fear, Sex Fruit etc in order for those very specific names to be added to the ban-list.

My mother was a manager at a chemist, she dealt with incoming cv's when advertising for jobs, her Motto was stupid name, stupid person.

She also knew a family who had a girl with a name that was unisex but spelt it the males way, a boy called Boy and another child who I only ever knew as snot due to the constant flow of erm, snot. This bit should be in the council thread smile

In my daughter’s class at kindergarten was a Lion.

That’’s a lot to live up to in a name.

Can’t become a mid-level accountant living in Swindon and do that name justice.

Jihad is a straightforward Arabic name. Nowt wrong with that.

I do believe that in England at least, if a registrar believes a name to be utterly inappropriate, they can refuse to register. Those parents would then have to take it up with the General Register Office and the courts if they _really_ wanted to proceed.

The only qualification required to be a parent is functioning reproductive organs. Unfortunately that means people that probably shouldn’t become parents, do.

I think in Switzerland that the names you can give children are restricted to a list, but I think it only applies to Swiss children.

I always thought Candarelle and Climidiya would be good names for girls. Anadin and Persil for boys.
