The ship appears to lose all it's lighting about 5 minutes before impact, just becomes a dark mass. The lights come on again but too late.
Complete loss of power perhaps?
Could be any number of things, but blackout and resulting temporary loss of steering possible. Wind was light north-easterly at the time, which would push the vessel towards the south pile. The ship appears to lose all it's lighting about 5 minutes before impact, just becomes a dark mass.
