It’s the electoral roll information, most of which is either public or easy to get hold of if you have one of many legitimate reasons. This seems like a non story to me.

Voter Data, I wonder if that includes how each person voted ?
I've often been suspicious its not all that anonymous, could the little number on the slip used to track you ?

UK voting is secret, not anonymous. The slips get kept and could be used to work out who voted for who -I've often been suspicious its not all that anonymous, could the little number on the slip used to track you ?

Given that the electoral register is for sale, I can't imagine China would hack us to get that. Or why they would care who voted for who. It all sounds a bit "chinny, reckon" frankly. Just general "China bad" stuff as we lay the groundwork for the next war.

Given that China does not even care who gets voted in for U.S. - Biden or Trump (it's the same pain for them) then what is there to gain from trying to influence any voting in the UK?
We have Americans paying Brits to protest outside of abortion clinics! Why would anyone not be interested in influencing the politics of the 6th largest economy with the 7th most powerful military and a foudning member of 5 Eyes who'll be supplying subs for the Australians. We banned the use of Huawei 5G technology and called them out for the persecution of Uighurs and promoted brain-drain from Hong Kong after they destroyed its democracy. I'm sure they're as interested in us as we are in everyone. With only 67M people and great freedom of speech, it's probably a bit of a bargain.glazbagun said:

You can throw 'em a few quid if that's your thing:

And election interference is almost as old as elections themselves. None of this is tin-foil hat, let alone full-on faraday cage delusion.
