Penny Mordaunt - PM for PM

I doubt the Tory Party would be in such a mess had she taken over from Boris.
Any evidence or reason to back that up? Given that she didn’t have the support of the majority of the Tory MPs why do you think she could have succeeded? I think the reality is that after 14 years the country is sick of the Tories and they have made far too many mistakes and their leaders have collectively been awful, being out of touch with the average personal as well as showing an aversion to truth and/or reality. She would just have been leading the st show in a slightly different fashion and no doubt, faced by the awful polls and the prospect of oblivion at the GE, Tories (probably including you) would be lining up to stab her in the back.
All very amusing from the sidelines.
The reality is that the Tory party is riddled with a few different factions and there isn’t any one single potential leader that can unify them at present. A defeat is needed to rebuild… a bit like what happened with Labour.
Regardless who takes over, now the backstabbing and continuous undermining will continue. Only a massive election loss will lead to a rebuild of the party.

Terrible
All of the decent Tories were purged during Johnson’s stint. Quite a legacy.
Nothing left at all.

Was really hoping for... "and when the world stands up and fights ALL OF THE OTHER PLANETS STAND UP AND FIGHT!!"
No. Silly leaders are the result of deep problems in the party. Not just in parliament but at grassroots level. A sensible leader would be a sign that the party has purged itself of the loonies, not the other way around.
However, the Tory party seems to have a knack recently of making sensible people in to loons when they get power.

She's a good orator, but as another WEF stooge (a la Starmer/Sunak) I'd expect no change to the current immigration/net-zero/financial policies that are destroying the country, nor any opposition to the WHO future plans.

The party is rotten from the top down.
Any turnaround will be oil tanker like in that it'll take time and to be honest even if she does seem one of the more sensible heads I wouldn't put a penny on them sticking with anyone long enough to turn it around in the short term.
Rats in a sack.

I think she is a much better politician than Truss or Sunak, that's all.
I agree the majority of the country is sick of a Tory government.
Is Sunak a bad politician or just doing an impossible job (leading a party that is a party in name only with so many factions, useless politicians and toxic behaviour)? I agree the majority of the country is sick of a Tory government.
I am not saying he isn’t a bad politician, but I am not sure there is anyone who could unite the party at the moment. They need to be decimated at the polls and then time on the back benches to sort themselves out.

Sunak is not Boris, JRM, Truss or Priti Patel levels of lunacy (each crazy in their own unique way).
He is spineless, completely out of touch and not particularly principled. He’s clearly not stupid, but I think he lacks political acumen to get his plan done and influence people, and lacks the empathy to understand the reality of the vast majority of people outside his multimillionaire world.

Absolutely agree, Johnson should never have been anywhere near power, I’d put him in the same bracket as Trump. That clip is unbelievable, I hadn’t realised that Truss had actually raised the oratorical bar.Terrible

Bring on Penny for the GE, she will be the cherry on the cake of st we have had to endure for the last five years.

They've always been that way, though, at least since the days of Heath. Thatcher split the party. She had the lowest rating of any tory PM up until the Falklands. The same tories who were calling for her expulsion before were the ones who wanted her beatified. The point is that the factions are not as a result of different beliefs in the fundamentals; it's in power blocks. They struggle for their own advantage. Mogg et al want authority to do what some of those factions they are fighting want as well. Bizarre. Labour's divisions are as a result of wanting to be more left wing/centrist. I used to think that was more difficult to unify. Not so sure now.Regardless who takes over, now the backstabbing and continuous undermining will continue. The trouble with the Tories is that they don’t know why they exist anymore. They are so split into many factions all viewing for power that swapping from one leader to another just puts this disunity on display to the electorate. We look at them and think even though we think we are fairly conservative as a Country we can’t trust you to be Conservative because we don’t know what kind of Conservatives are going to be in power for the 12 months until you change tack…yet again…so reallly what’s the point…go away and properly sort yourselves out.
