Well deserved. They work hard and provide excellent value for money.

Pay each of them a million a year, but outlaw any other forms of income beyond a standard savings account or ISA. 25 years in prison and 100% asset seizure for any MP in contravention of this.

See how many of the current lot would still want to be in politics...

Most of the 600 as that's 20k a week lol. But 91k frankly not huge but my argument is many of thr 650 aren't worth it. But qe could all just not vote so no MP elected then maybe things would change.

Part of me hopes turn out is low at this election.

Less than the starting salary of an NHS consultant as of 2023/24. Ball park for an average non-junior solicitor. And MPs have very poor job security by normal professional standards. And they have to do a ton of unpaid work to get elected on the first place. No one becomes an MP to get rich. There are vastly easier ways to do that.

Feels like £91k is a good way to attract people you don’t want to be MPs. Too little for top talent.

Not to say all MPs are bad.

My immediate thought too, nice salary for a grifter who's willing to say all the right things but not enough for someone who knows all the right things.

Pay peanuts you get monkeys.

MPs needs to carry a salary comparable with seriously elite jobs and we need to stop poking about in their private lives and stop demonising them over trivia.

There's a dearth of political talent in the UK and there are very obvious reasons for that.

Nonsense, my local MP has never voted against the whip, you could literally pay minimum wage and get that.

There are so many things he's been urged to do something about and he still follows the party line, could get a monkey to do that.

Considering all the personal expenses they can claim the salary is probably closer to £140-150k. That is CEO money at a medium size company. That are not many that justify having a 6 figure salary.

And you won't get a chance to stand to become an MP without being a 'Yes' person all the way up the greasy pole. There is no way a leopard changes it spots when it gets near the top...
