A man who took a "light-hearted" picture of his brother in a court dock has been jailed for six months ... he took three pictures of his brother, also capturing two 18-year-old co-defendants and a dock security guard. He then shared an image in stories on Facebook and Instagram with a caption saying his brother was in court and a sunglasses emoji.

In what way was it "light-hearted"?

It's forbidden in a place which takes itself very seriously and has massive power to enforce its will. The guy was a pillock & this might be a very educational experience for him.

I dont know if the layout of every courtroom is the same but the one experience I do have is in the Old Bailey where the jury were right opposite the viewing gallery. I can imagine that the rules on taking photos are treated very seriously.

Per wikipedia "In British English, gaol was the more common published spelling between approximately 1730 and 1960, and is still preferred in proper names in some regions."

Good. Teaches those Gen Z tossers that not everything can be shared on the 'gram for likes.

Having recently drawn the short straw again for jury service, any court is most definitely not a place to fk around and find out.

Still looks very old fashioned though. Like talking in florins, crowns, farthings and tanners. Anyone who uses the phrase "10 bob note" now is a relic.

During a trial for violent disorder, where someone died and 2 people have already gone down for manslaughter.

Matey boy had previous for witness intimidation.

Should have been 12 months.

The judge said the defendants could have been intimated and there could have been a "risk of reprisals" for the dock guard.
Is that really what the judge said, BBC ?

Good. He looks like a right f***ing nugget so deserves it. Note his previous convictions of witness intimidation so his assertion of "light-hearted" is clearly a load bull. Maybe a good kicking would have been a better punishment

I bet that smug little smile disappeared when he realised he was a guest of his majesty for a little while.

Gaol is a term used by pedants and as we all know on PH, pedantry matters.

I've contracted for the MoJ in the past on only the most nasally inclined call it gaol.
