It's not clear from the article whether this is specific to thugs making threats over the Israel/Gaza conflict or if it's something else or if it's something specific and unique to each individual.

Three female MPs given bodyguards

Whatever it is best wishes to those involved.

What on earth has gone wrong that being elected to represent your constituents ends up like this.

Oh come on, they were woke 30 years before the term was even invented.

Although they did foil the plot of someone who looked suspiciously like Jeremy Corbyn every other week... scratchchin

All credit to the Speaker for highlighting this threat to MPs last week.

Absolute mystery, don't think anyone knows TBH and I don't think anyone ever will.

For now though I'm blaming Brexit and bigots.

Hold on - we had a Prime Minister assassinated at Westminster in 1812. Is this really a case for ‘what on earth has gone wrong?’

I will suggest that it's because Parliament and the authorities both metaphorically and literally took the knee to factions who aim to get their way by threats backed up by mob rule.

Couple that with a general problem with atrocious behaviour, hands tied behind backs in dealing with situations which need a robust response. You've now got a worrying number of Met officers who are effectively refusing and avoiding S&S of knife suspects resulting in emboldened and untouchable attitudes.

Away from physical threats, people have to be so diffident and careful in making any comment which might incur wrath from some subset with a different view that effectively free speech is being curtailed. They've taken that to Parliament, MP's homes, anywhere or any subject is not safe. Safe spaces?

The solution Lindsay Hoyle sought was the wrong one having recognised that the safety of MPs, Parliament and a free country is under threat. His solution simply emboldens and encourages more intimidation. We need to fight it not take the sodding knee.

Looking at the amount of total loons that populate these threads, it's no surprise really.

Good call...Failing that, it might be Climate Change perhaps...Or the Janitors. They always look shifty!

Shame we don't know which ones.

If we did the reasons for protection would become clearer, but lets face it given current events there is a high likelihood they are Jewish or Jew supporting/adjacent and those who support Palestine that wish them harm.

There are all manner of reasons that leap to mind from the nutter wing of the Palestine protests to the loons who threatened Rayner and Noakes everything in between.

Point is it needs dealing with.

Nobody wants another Cox or Amess to happen.

We could well be making the mistake that because we are living our bit of history we think we are past such things. We are not, human nature has not evolved all that far from huge disputes and unrest from many years ago but now we have tech that spreads the word of dissent much more effectively.

Plus we have easier travel, worldwide.

For all the wonderful things it does for us I suspect the ability of weirdos to send threats quickly and anonymously (though it's amazing how often they mess it up) online plays its part too.

Don't get me wrong I'm sure there's still a lot of physically written threats and filth turn up at MPs homes and offices but I would imagine the lions share is online abuse.

I agree that it will be those opposed to Hamas that have been targeted, the 5th columnists we have are obviously presenting a growing threat and one that will only increase, we're being dragged into the gutter.

You only have to see some of the vitriol meeted out to certain politicians on here to understand the need for protection. Most of them totally unaware of the impression they give to others and all under the banner of be kind or they deserve it.
