Every year I have to do an online anti bribery training module, no bottles of wine, no tickets etc etc. and yet the people that make these laws are doing this. Stinks.

He’s a slimeball but even I can see that missing one measly hospitality ticket is hardly crime of the century and undoubtedly a genuine oversight

In fact it even had zero cost because the box owner didn’t charge anybody.

A spokesman said "Mr Gove is grateful to the Guardian for bringing this to our attention..."
Through gritted teeth!

Because it isn’t about the tickets. It is so much bigger and questionable than that.

Hardly. He normally declares everything on this occasion he didn’t. I don’t believe he would have deliberately done so hence it was an actual oversight.

'Cost' and 'Value' are two different things.

It’s not. Coolhands is correct in this.
Of all the things that he could play fast and loose with that comes his way, this is so far way down the list that it’s the equivalent of the claiming the sink plug in the expenses scandal. This is the joke one that he looks worse for having than rather than it currying any favours.
There are many many things I’ve lambasted Gove for over the yrs. This will not be one of them as it’s the least of my grievances with him.

This.

The fact the tickets did not cost Gove's host any money does not mean there was no value in the hospitality.

Otherwise that would be a very fine loophole indeed.

It might not be crime of the century, but it smells like rotten pig feed.

"Gove in May 2020 recommended Meller’s company at the time, Meller Designs, as a potential PPE supplier to the government’s chief commercial officer. The offer was referred to the government’s “VIP lane”, that gave high priority to companies recommended by ministers, Conservative MPs and peers, and officials, and six PPE contracts were awarded worth £164m."

I very much doubt that hospitality at QPR was all that Gove has asked for in exchange for funneling £164m of public money to his mate.

What I was thinking. Probably driven out of his head because he was coked out of his mind.

And yet REAL PPE companies, employing 100s of people were overlooked, because they didn't think to wine and dine conservative MPs.

Is there any value to watching a 1-1 draw between QPR and Millwall? Watching a game in the local Sunday pub league would have more value IMHO.

Why do MPs need it anyway? The powers that be could just ban it altogether thus protecting everyone from any accusations.

It's not about the cost, it's the principle.

Are people that naive to think that Gove was invited to these football matches to have a pint and chat about QPR?
