Awful driving incident leaves one dead
Discussion
Just read that too. Hard to see what could have caused it - no attempt to slow down it appears. Poor bloke who died minding his own business of an evening. The charge of causing death by dangerous driving suggests to me police might think it was fkwittery rather than a driver medical issue or something.
That's the second bit of crap driving from Birmingham posted on PH today
I just don't understand why the idiot in the white car seems to think that if he keeps his foot down, he'll get through.
See a lot of similar situations from cameras and dash cams on US roads where drivers pile into stationary traffic at full speed with no obvious attempt at braking and/or avoiding.
A lot of bikers can be riding along and then a car behind just goes through them as if they weren't there.
Feking awful for the poor innocent chap's friends and family.

Ridiculous driving, and the book should be thrown at the driver of the Audi.
But I'm struggling to see how car drivers and passengers have got seriously hurt in such an impact. There's so much energy dissipated it seems bad luck played a part too.
And the article says the person killed was in a stationary car - does that mean one of the parked cars?

The car that's hit from behind is accelerated pretty much instantly to a fairly high speed and then stopped pretty much instantly by the two cars that it hits, one of which is traveling in the opposite direction. There's only so much that passive safety devices can do to mitigate the kind of internal injuries that this will cause.oyster said:

Car at the back of the queue was (just) stationary when it was hit, if the passenger was in the nearside rear seat they'd stand a good chance of suffering fatal injuries, the passenger cell collapsed in on them and a huge amount of force would have been transferred into them. As someone else has said, immediately after that force was applied the car was then stopped dead in it's tracks too which would have done even more damage. But I'm struggling to see how car drivers and passengers have got seriously hurt in such an impact. We lost a close friend in an RTA last year. She was driving with her husband in a Fiesta which got hit head on by a Ford Connect van. The van was driving over the speed limit but not by a huge amount - driver got distracted before a bend and just ploughed into the front of them. Our friend's Fiesta ended up on its side in a field. Her husband escaped with a couple of broken ribs. Pretty much every organ south of her heart got mashed and she suffered a massive bleed to the brain. Had you witnessed the scene or the state of the cars after, you would not have considered the incident to be fatal.Chrisgr31 said:
Problem is it’s this sort of driving that supports the arguments of those that say Speed Kills etc and leads to reductions in speed limits even though they weren’t adhering to the existing limit
Maybe leaving the speed limits as they are and having more cameras would help. At least that way (hopefully) selfish s like this would get banned at some point.Slightly better view, and a dash cam who you can see flashing their lights at him right at the start. I guess by the way he overtook the cam car he wasn't expecting the road to narrow.

It does seem insanely fast. I wonder if he was adjusting his seat and it shot forward, or he got his foot caught between the pedals. Even the most arrogant and/or stupid of drivers wouldn't have expected to get through an area like that at that speed.
Having said that, when I worked in Birmingham, my car was parked in a road of terraced houses in Acocks Green, with cars on both sides. One night there was a commotion as a joyrider went down the road at speed, bouncing off all the cars around my car on both sides of the road, yet mine was unmarked.
