Seems fair, we gave Obama the same message when he did the same...although kiss my pig would have been more accurate for Cameron.

It's not so much whether we agree with his sentiment or not, it's the complete lack of political decorum and even the faux respect that is usually portrayed between countries. Really sums up 21st century politics which worries me as our politicians are a microcosm of our society. I do wonder if we enable their behaviour, or they enable ours?

One thing that this kind of thing brings home to me is that should things go pear shaped and the UK ends up involved in some conflict, regardless of “special relationship”, the US will not “have our back”; we will be on our own. I’d accept this normally, but the number of times the UK has waded in, even though it’s only our small forces, to back up the US you’d think it’d count for something.

We and our fellow EU states need to get a grip of this: 2% spend on defence? fk that; it needs to be “war footing” levels of funding, like 10%. The US aren’t going to help us, not unless there’s some big benefit for them. We are on our own.

As ever countries have interests, not pals.

If one works off that basis then you're less likely to be disappointed. Past partnerships feel a fair bit further away than they once did.

Europe's weakness and aimlessness is pretty galling, but twentysomething cultures all with their own experiences of the past and present are never going to coalesce in the same way one power in love with sticking its might often where it shouldn't will.

It'll be interesting to see if there's ever a satisfactory arrangement for pooled capabilities and readiness that works better than now and doesn't tread on plenty of toes. If we don't do it, someone less friendly might force it on us.

Taylor green is an idiot, an idiot that shines a big light on how broken the US political scene is right now.

It's such an odd expression. Does it mean the buttock or something else . Is an arse (ass) a bottom or an American oddity like pants means trousers?
Surely it's inviting a physical assault of a sexual nature , or is she giving permission.

Personally I would need to see the ass first before I decided.
Just seems such an odd thing to say.

Agree. Europe must be able to defend itself. (I hope it won't take 10pc.)

Next question, does "defend ourselves" include keeping foreign trade routes open? I think it might. We're terrifying easy to blockade, even from a distance.

It sucks but we need to step up. frown

I know lots of wonderful Americans, and a handful of awful ones.
This is what happens when one of the awful ones is given a whiff of power.

Yes but she was voted in. What does that say about a lot of Americans? Not as if she is the only one either.

American dude could have been more respectful (David is an ex head of state after all) but the message is right - Europe needs to step up more, its relied on Amercia too much...

She is and it is.

Where are the hope/aspirational politicians (e.g. Obama)?
Why are the candidates 75+?
Where are the great communicators (like Reagan)?

Even George W was capable of self deprecation and humor... pretty funny guy at times, for all his faults.

You really wouldn't want to see it. Have you seen the rest of her? Techie Dave probably would though.

I suppose 'kiss my ass' is more words than 'who'?...so that's something.

Like anyone in the US would care one jot what Cameron thinks!

I would definitely take George W now over the absolute stshow that is US politics at the moment. He has really grown on me since he left office.

Yup - me too.

One of my tests for a good president is if they attend and take part in the White House Correspondents' dinner...
