On the face of it, sounds like the right course of action if the suspect was armed. No further details at the moment it seems.

This.

Like all police deaths there will be an investigation but no cause to think it's anything but what is being claimed. Hope the officers involved are alright.

It's a good thing that in the UK that a police shooting is so rare that one death without any suspicious circumstances makes the news.

Obviously tragic.

Just wondering what the Sheriff of Polk County would say were it in his jurisdiction. He’s fairly direct.

Reportedly he was armed with a knife, a hatchet, a sword and a crossbow.

I read this article this morning, and it seems likely that someone's life was at-risk.

I did spot this at the bottom though

BBC article said:
The most recent fatal shooting by the Met Police was that of Giedrius Vasiljevas, 40, who died at his home in Dagenham, east London, in November after calling 999 to say he had loaded guns and wanted to take his own life.
I don't remember that incident getting much coverage.

On the face of it it sounded ridiculous, but then I realised the guy basically used the police to commit suicide. Seems a pretty selfish thing to do to a police officer.

It’s a regular thing in the US.

What we have to ask ourselves though, just to be absolutely sure - was it just a coincidence that he had all those weapons with him at the same time?
Just asking for a friend.

Maybe he was carrying them for work, as a professional medieval reenactor?

Known to the services.

Maybe he’d still be alive if he’d been black?

Amazing how chatty police chiefs are so early on in such circumstances.

Are the reports confirmed?

I assumed he was white from the outset, judging from the lack of any public outrage. Not saying there should have been any. Sounds justified as far as we know so far.

Don't know why any need to wait for IOPC to investigate since the Met Police's Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said
"I firmly believe their actions prevented further loss of life."

Have they ever fibbed in the past to excuse killing someone?

Their word is not good without corroboration. If the guy genuinely had these items then fair play but evidence is required.

I know you’re absolutely right.

It’s the third time this week alone that Police have randomly broken into someone’s house at 5.30am and shot dead the occupant and then planted a crossbow, knives and body armour on them

Amazingly they even managed to get local residents not only call them but also film them murdering the innocent occupant

It’s impressive how they managed it don’t you think?
