There seems to be an underlying current talking about war or war related subjects in the media...

Why ?

Where did we go wrong ?

Is it on the wall ?

conscription ? Tiwan ? Ukraine ? The Baltics ? Gemany ? Finland ? Its all bubbling on, or is it ? is it just media babbly ?

did we do the wrong thing with the Ukraine ? Stand back and let it happen ? send out the wrong message to Putin ?

where will we be in 10 years ? we had the Putin is dying with cancer... Aye.. not happened yet...

Lots of nuclear talk by Putins buddies... are they his mouth piece so that hes not actually saying it.

It's just the time of year, everyone has got a bit of cabin fever from the long dark nights and crap weather. The biker banter forum gets a bit argumentative this time of year too but once the weather pick up and people can start enjoying the weekend cars and bikes there won't be quite so many arguments.

The recent talk of conscription is just public Sabre rattling in the press to counter the same thing that already happened in Russia.

This means that your average soap box conspiracy theorist is now enjoying their moment in the limelight.

What was actually said with regards to the size of the army, and the spin put on it by the media, was vastly different.

Remember, media outlets are no longer selling news, they're selling advertising space. It doesn't matter if their stories & headlines are truthful or meaningful, they just need you to click that headline so they get paid.

"War Imminent" headline, gets alot more clicks than "war is pretty unlikely", sensationalising everything is now their business model.

Do I need to say any more?

This st always happens when the economy is about to tank.
People need a villain, so their own leaders can be absolved of their greed and incompetence.

Red meat for red meat voters.

Translated "please don't vote the current govt out of power, there could be a war on.......................that we will do our best to start"

All the while Tory boomers are absolutely w***ing them selves dry over the idea of the younger Millennials and Gen Z being conscripted.

Forgetting that younger Millennials and Gen Z have older brothers and sisters who spent the last 20 years fighting the war on terror and and telling their younger sibling not to join the armed forces.

Says me, a fmr Squaddie.

I think the one issue that's simmering is Finland and Russia. Finland rushed to join NATO last year in response to Russia invading Ukraine. Russian retaliated by forcibly sending migrants over the border causing a refugee crisis. They did the same to Poland and the Baltics a few years ago. Finland retaliated by sealing it's borders so Putin was back on Russian TV telling Russians "Look, NATO is moving closer to us and they're throwing up walls".

Hopefully Putin is just using it all as an excuse to tighten his grip on Russia, pushing them back into a Cold War, close the borders and their economy off before they run out of money. If not, if he finds an excuse to invade Finland then the rest of NATO has to retaliate and it's WW3.

There's a dozen other ways it can happen no doubt. UN Peacekeepers in Gaza would be a tinder box.

The west showed that we don't have the will to prevent a war by deterrence, and even less will to actually fight one, so now every nasty bd with an army is realising that they can do what they want.

The west has also shown that they'll throw every resource into someone else fighting the war and not risk their own soldiers in the process resulting in a win win.

The only two threats are Russia and China

Russia has been completely shown up for what it is by fighting and being terrible at it in Ukraine.

It remains to be seen but I wouldn't bet on China being any better. Paper tiger with no fighting experience.

I've no idea why the media and why the talking heads are bothering mentioning conscription at all.

We'd be screwed if they fired up conscription and we actually went to war.

The general populace are so weak and weak minded these days Id be surprised if they could get 10% of people actually in and serving if they tried. It would be just like Covid when people couldn't even take a simple vaccination. Everyone would have some semi made up medical condition to get out of it and unlike in the past I don't even think there would be as much stigma about dodging service. Society these days is very much geared up for the individual and people don't really care about the greater state of the nation. Add in the misinformation and conspiracy theories for the thickos and bingo nobody will get signed up. Also I think we don't have any political leaders in this country that would fire up the motivation in the population to follow them and do their bidding. It would be an extremely difficult task.

It's hard to imagine boots on the ground in Finland but the general state of things at the moment does give genuine grounds for concern the two main worries being China/Taiwan and yet another Proxy war in the middle East. Objectively Russia are no threat to anyone they couldn't even annex Ukraine for gawds sake it's more the potential for forming an axis with China and that's why Taiwan is the biggest hot potato in the planet right now. It. Shouldn't be underestimated how appaulingly bad the Chinese are. They make Putin look like Mr Tumble.

Two things that need to happen to help with our safety in this country:

Double the size of the regular army. It's half the size it should be given the threats around the world.

Immediately get back into the EU and progress the United States of Europe and merge our armed forces into a super army. We've half a chance of nobody messing us about if we did that. I don't think we can depend on the USA any more.
