Nobody wants a war but could be just what the youth of today need a good spell in the forces ? No more working from home, hours on social media. Learn some new skills and fight for your country. I’m sure people will be queuing up to join!

I can't see it happening at all, but lets entertain the subject perhaps.

Surely if it did happen 99% of the public would be more of a liability than a help in actual front line fighting? I'm sure you could get some people up to scratch with some limited training, but most of the public surely have abilities that would be helpful doing other things.

Might want truck drivers to drive trucks, truck mechanics to carry on being mechanics etc. I feel like my background would be better suited to building/rebuilding infrastructure, defences, etc.

Sure, you might be in danger doing those support roles, but I can't see them sending 100,000 members of the public to a trench or putting them in a tank or a plane.

All those who think this is a great idea should be the first called up regardless of age.

Let's see how popular it is then.

Who do think fought in WW2? How do you think Ukraine is fighting against Russia now? I very much doubt we are going to war with Russia but your statements do rather attack the memories of those that fought and died for your freedom.

Being a soldier today is wildly different from being a conscripted soldier in 1940.

I'm 50 so I suspect "I’ll just have to sit this one out on the touchline with the half-time oranges and the fat wheezy boys with a note from matron, while you young bloods link arms for the glorious final scrum down."

Honestly I think the majority of youngsters will be out if there is no WiFi on the battlefield so they can upload TikTok videos.

Good point, and what about those who are trans or gender fluid? Traditionally it has been men that have been conscripted to become cannon fodder, how do you define that these days?

I am ex services however looking back today I would not do it again and would not encourage any one else to do so. The idea that spineless weasels in politics are your boss and can order you off to your death whilst they carry on with their subsidised lifestyle and their kids are kept away from all the nastiness. Some think it is noble. I think it is retarded.

The one the BBC was quoting in the article that gave 86 an opportunity to say "home working" and that young people today aren't like what he was like in his youth (which is called progress, not that he'd recognise it).

The British Isles haven't been successfully invaded in a thousand years.
