LGBT+ housing schemes
Discussion
It's one part of a larger development and rather than being exclusionary it's been designed working with major LGBTQ+ organisations in the local area. Will be like assisted living for the elderly from the sounds of it having had a read.
It clearly says they "expect the majority" to be from the local LGBTQ+ community, which would make sense as it's been designed for that purpose and in conjunction with those groups who will promote it. If you desperately wanted to live there, you could.
Not being from that community I've no idea of the issues but in regards to the marketing it's no different to a development being marketed at "young professionals" is it really? It's been designed with a demographic in mind. Nothing stopping anyone else living there.

Discrimination based on sexual orientation?
If I want to buy one & can't because I'm straight* then surely that's illegal discrimination?
(*Mostly straight since public school).
Where does it say a straight person can’t buy one?If I want to buy one & can't because I'm straight* then surely that's illegal discrimination?

It’s also only for over 55s, you not bothered about age discrimination? ;-)
You could just read the article before getting angry:
“To live in this building, residents will need to be aged 55 years or over, and the majority of residents will be members of the LGBTQ+ community from Manchester. …‘the aim is to provide an open and inclusive, physical and psychological place of safety for the older LGBTQ+ community’… Russell Road will provide high-quality, affordable, and inclusive homes for older people who identify as LGBT+ or allies, as well as shared ownership opportunities for local residents”
So, no, you won’t have to prove anything. There won’t be any requirement. They will be marketed to people in the Manchester LGBTQ+ community, that’s all.

So what. Residents won't need to be LGBTetc to live there though.
Is there a need for this, are they excluded from other residential communities?
If you're genuinely interested from memory some of the reasons Tatchell mentioned are getting away from the violence and prejudice that some LGBT+ people still face which is easier said than done if it's coming from your next door neighbour plus the loneliness and isolation that some older LGBT+ people often feel for example after a partner dies or for some there's still a bit of awkwardness about being LGBT+.Is there a need for this, are they excluded from other residential communities?

My question would be why would it bother you?

The article literally says that it's open to non-LGBT+ people as well, so if you're over 55 and you really, really want to live in an LGBT+ focussed community you can do

Maybe ask some over 55s from the LGBTQ+ community.

Back to my original comment. How are they going to ensure the majority are LGBT? What evidence would be required I wonder?
