Japanese Tsunami - New Years Day
Discussion
I recall the Boxing Day Tsunami, and now it appears there has been another major occurrence
Really hope it's less serious than the last one and that damage and loss is minimal

It’s a big earthquake with potential for large tsunami. Also warming of additional quakes to Vimeo.
Lots of people posting video from 2011 tsunami on TwiXXer already though. Worth being careful about what video is genuine from today.
Epicentre is very close to land so maybe less chance of a huge wave….?

This area is very active, when I was there in April and May there were a lot of reasonable size quakes just off that finger of land that sticks out into the sea of Japan near Kanazawa. 3-4 magnitude were happening pretty regularly every few days. I guess its been brewing for a while.
Its looking like they have got away with it this time, biggest reports I have seen is 1.2m wave which most towns will easily be able to handle with their flood defences as they are normally 3m at the least.
Fingers crossed the area around Kanazawa is beautiful and some really nice places and there are quite a few large towns / cities too with lots of people.
