Heard this mentioned in the radio news but there didn't seems to be much detail.
Daihatsu is suspending production across all of its plants in Japan, after it emerged that it had falsified safety reports for 64 models over nearly 30 years.

No one seems to be mentioning what safety data though.... Presumably can't be anything related to NCAP data as that's independent. Something to do with post production quality checks? But given the length of time it's been going on, one wonder how it was covered up and how it's now come to light...

NCAP is nothing to do with homologation. It's a 3rd party assessment.

They need to certify each new product for production. And will have conformity of production tests too for existing models. No idea what they've done but sounds like they might have used "surrogate" data for new production runs rather than testing with the actual new designs. Fun times ahead.

I'd guess from the press releases that they've been fabricating the internal continuous validation test data used to confirm production complies with the data submitted for type approval and/or swapping out approved components for unapproved ones. Toyota have stated that one of these falsifications resulted in production that didn't comply with the law, but don't know many people where injured as a result.

Is it suggesting a different air bag controller was used in the tests to the production models of some cars?

Is it suggesting it found one issue on one car model that might not unlock properly, but everything else was fine? Not sure if I've read it correctly or if that's just am example issue?

Is this toyota being overly cautious and perhaps the problem isn't a big deal, hence lack of reporting? They do seem to recall promptly rather than bury their head in the sand like some rivals.

The Toyota iQ is also affected. Does that mean that by extension the Aston Martin Cygnet is also affected?
