Can we still vote our way out of this mess?

Or have we reached the point of no return and are now trapped within the event horizon of perpetual political incompetence?

Of course, there will be those who believe there is no mess at all and will argue to excruciating levels of banality to demonstrate that.

However, for those who understand that we are in a really big mess, do you think there is still a chance of being able to tidy it up?

Me, I think that the mess we find ourselves in is so large that all is lost with the lunatics, not only having taken over the asylum, but are now running it, badly.

And yes, this is 'man shouts at cloud' moment.

Yes, just get the Tories out.

I know it's not what you want to hear but it's true.

No. Both parties offer essentially the same thing these days. Just different coloured ties.

Labour have been so terrible over the last 13 years that the only vote can be for the Tories.

"Just get the Tories out", then what?

Vote labour in so they can carry on with the same incompetence, but with added madness?

We will still be in the same mess, but even more bankrupt.

It won’t be added madness will it? The current government is the most corrupt we have ever had. That has to have consequence.

You need to state clearly what you want.

The Tories traditionally were low tax low spend but have not done that due to hang over from GFC a large state sector, Public demand for higher NHS spending and now covid.

Labour have been higher tax and higher services but this is now close to the tory party.

People want change but because economically the tories are close to Labour there is little difference. Words and rhetoric don't affect you just the economy.

So vote Labour and there will be no chnage but you will punish current MPs.

When Conservative supporters only have “Labour will be worse” to rely on then it’s pretty pathetic.

No, you miss the point, they are both as bad as each other, there is no longer a 'least worse', they are both the worse worse.

I lie, the fringe loony parties like the greens and lib dems are worse, but don't count thankfully.

Out of interest I Googled ‘youngest MP’; it returns Nadia Whittome.

On Wikipedia it describes her as having started a law degree but dropping out and then a brief stint as a crime project worker (public sector non-job) and a carer (which could be anything).

So this is who we have being elected to make decisions?! Someone with fk all qualifications, fk all life experience, a socialist vision and the ability to completely ruin it for everyone.

The entry requirements for being an MP are staggeringly low; perhaps they could start with insisting on at least a decade of life experience as a grown up?

Anyway, no, we can’t vote our way out of this. The people you’d actually want running the country have got no interest in mixing with the showers of ste who are our MPs. In fact, I still maintain that anyone who actually wants power should never be allowed anywhere near it; it should go to someone who has no interest in it!

Tories being "low tax, low spend" is why our Public Services are FUBAR. Hopefully that might be one area where Labour could put some daylight between themselves and the Tories.

yeah that is a good call - the way you can't get to be a General in the army without a certain amount of time served.

It wouldn't be hard to put together a set of rules that a MP had to adhere to. Must had run a business, must have worked for at least ten years in a qualifying job.

The problem is, the people that have done that are generally not enough of a to be an MP - but I like the idea for sure.

It would be nice to have MPs who had worked for a significant amount of time in either Public Sector roles or jobs where they had to deal with the Public. I'm talking about jobs such as Teaching, Nursing, Social Work, the Police. Then maybe they'd understand the issues that the majority of people face, not just the minority whose biggest issue is the Annual Allowance on pension contributions.
