Must be more to it, surely? Guys looking for a getaway car after another crime?

Inside job to claim insurance?

Frightening experience.

Someone in the next village to us had their house broken into and their Fiesta Fusion stolen.

You’d think it more likely a premium car of some sort.
People have different aspirations. Maybe it was for a getaway after mugging someone for a Timex.

Of you want a car to go out and do a bit of mindless criminality in then there's nothing better than something like an Astra that blends in.

It'll be harder to spot than a bright green RS3 for example.

That’s a Good point

Is car jacking reasonably common in the uk then? I must admit it’s not something I’ve heard of outside of films and tv scratchchin

No not really, it's pretty rare where I work, it's all about the relay thefts these days.

It was in Scotland - Astra is premium there.

Exactly. Our neighbours recreational pharmaceuticals are delivered in a plain white Astra.

There’s an excellent series you can get on YouTube about the flying squad in London back in the mid 90’s when there were weekly bank jobs

The getaway car of choice for the armed blaggers was a basic Astra in a plain colour

In fairness if it was an Astramax I would have understood. Awesome things.
