I'm disappointed it's not my MP.

Reads the following extract from the article in a nasal whine.

Article said:
“Should this DVLA information be accurate, I would presume Mr. Jones is therefore driving without valid insurance.

“The police have got back to me, telling me they are forwarding my information to the relevant department.”

Saves me having to read what must be a useless article.

Pretty sure that's not accurate either - depends on the T & C's of the insurance company. Not automatically void but likely to be, so the blanket statement is incorrect.

Hence the words, “I would presume”, `as a qualifier to the statement!

I'd put money on it that the person concerned doesn't differentiate in law and the qualifier is an unintended get-out in this case biggrin

I am sure your opinion is well held, but does not change the meaning of the sentence. There is a qualifier and hence the sentence does not state that the person IS driving without insurance.

I am not going to debate GCSE English over the internet; as much as I use this place as a distraction, there is a limit. smile

Fair point, and I can see what you're saying completely. We're not all here to pick arguments, despite what can be seen in certain threads on a regular basis on here wink

Hence the smiley on my previous post biggrin

Number of times I've forgotten to get an MOT over the years I've lost count.

I'm becoming more organised with age but one which caught me out recently was when the wife went back to work and started driving a lot... I basically gave her my car and failed to appreciate it's not the same as giving your car to somebody responsible.

I think our MOT actually lapsed by months on that occasion. The car had been going well and the tax and insurance were paid up front... completely forgot about the MOT.

This astounds me ... I've never missed an MOT in years of owning multiple cars and bikes simultaneously.

I rate myself as 'above average' in my organisational ability but I rely a lot on having a good memory more than writing things down. The flaw there is if you forget for some reason... there is nothing to stop you forgetting permanently. So in more recent years I have started using calendars and notepads more often.

You will probably have seen though, MOT stations sending reminders to customers, providing key-fobs with the MOT date on, stickers on the vehicle itself with the date... so it's not just me or our man of the topic... must happen quite a lot. And as above, the MOT reminder service from our.gov.

I once forgot about my MOT for a whole year and only discovered the mistake when I booked it for an MOT 2 years after the last one!

because he's an MP. He hinted as much in his comment saying why didn't they tell me directly instead of reporting it to the press and the police. If it really mattered the quickest way would be to tell the guy so he could get it sorted.
