DWP to contact airlines to see when and where benefit claimants travel to

I'm not sure I wholly understand the logic. Going to the Maldives when you're claiming UC might be a bit suspect but then again you may have been saving solidly for 10 years, or your relatives took pity on you and thought you deserved a break?

Waste of time and resources, tax evasion costs the government many times more than benefit fraud.

Not much the DWP can do about tax evasion.

There are rules about claiming benefits while you're overseas, so this makes sense. Otherwise you could be claiming unemployment in the UK while working somewhere abroad. I don't think it's about giving people a kicking for a week in Benidorm.

There is actually. Do you not know? Think about it. They (the Government anyway) could tighten up laws. Even I know that.

DWP are not the Government, they have nothing to do with Tax law or enforcement.

Last time I went to Florida there were a Family of Three of them, Mum, Dad and their daughter who was probably 20 years old, all of them fat. They got wheeled straight past the massive queue for passport control in three wheelchairs, the mum saying "I'd walk if I could" whilst waving her dole pole.

Boiled my piss, if they are going on Holiday to Florida then they are getting far too much in benefits.

Great idea and having given it some thought, maybe they (the Government) could also create a department for collecting revenues. biggrin

How do you know they were on benefits?

I assume its to try and clamp down on people who spend a lot of time overseas. I believe there is a problem that there are a lot of people who claim benefits from the UK government who don't actually spend much time here.

Sounds like a BS story, DWP obtaining customer information from airlines, unlikely. Click bait.

Michelle Mone has a yacht in the Mediterranean if that's any help.

last time i was in dubai there was a family of 6 syrians (all men) wearing I Love London tshirts but in mobility scooters.

They all parked them next to the pool and did a little hobble walk to get in, they then messed about all afternoon drinking pina coladas.

When i walked past their scooters, i saw a photo of a 5 bed in chelsea they were living in, and all their dole slips.

true story.

Likely this and also ensuring claimants are keeping to their requirements in terms of looking for work.

Checking if Benefit Claimants are leaving the country for excessive amounts of time seems like a reasonable step to take to prevent fraud.

Rule of thumb: any story published by a website that ends in "live" is untrue, or as close to it as makes no odds.

From my experience the two typically go hand in hand... Claiming benefits and working for cash.
